Wasted Time - Demo 2005 -- Wednesday, December 07, 2005 Got this one just a few days after I made a "Best Demo of 2005" poll on the LWR Board. A bunch of dudes replied, WASTED TIME! and I had no idea who they were talking about. I gave this a few spins and appreciate it. But I don't think I could give it a proper review. It's good, just not really my style. Thankfully, Chris Corry offered (more like gave in after some badgering) to lend a hand. Here's his review.
Thanks CC. Also, if you want to contact Wasted Time, hit em up here. In My Way - S/T - A389 Records 003 - 2005 -- Saturday, December 03, 2005 Ok, I got this one from In My Way some time back. It was sitting under a pile of random CDs that I needed to review. When I initially received it from A389 Records, I was struck by some weird similarities. And then, it just got pushed under everything else. Well, today is the day. Time for the review. First off, I'll start with the striking resemblance. You tell me if I'm crazy or not. ![]() Same font, similar lettering effect, 70% similar name, ... Wow. That's not so original. The similarities end there. The cover looks more like a Bear Vs. Shark layout. Or what I imagine a Bear vs. Shark layout (with the bear winning, of course) to look like. Unless you think the logo on the 7" cover looks like In My Eyes X Bold. ![]() Don't worry, though. The music isn't reminiscent of Bold or In My Eyes. Despite the fact that these dudes are down with the straight edge and hail from the home of sxe, Washington DC. Here's what the label has to say about the band:
Yeah, I miss all of those comparisons. Now I know I'm the guy who normally makes real shitty comparisons, but I don't hear anything that even vaguely reminds me of Chain of Strength or PX. But I don't see any positive notions here. It's all neg. If we are going for Rev comparisons, I'd have to side more with an angry Judge (I think the term "angry" is a little unnecessary here) or a pissed Side By Side (again, "pissed" is a little redundant) but without the sheer amazing qualities that make thousands and thousands of kids across the globe love those bands. So decide for yourself. You can listen to a few of their tracks on their myspace site. Who knows, you could really dig this.

In The Crosshairs - Partners In Crime - Blood Money Records 001 - 2005
Another banger from Blood Money Records. Plus another layout by Juicy Joel. I sense a pattern here ... In The Crosshairs have a strong mosh presence with a hint of get down every now and again. I don't know about the Iron Maiden "for fans of" mention, but I can see the Terror and Madball influences. If you can hang with that, you can likely hang with this. These guys seem to have a lot of spirit, so I can imagine the live show is pretty cool. Plus, they throw in a Striving Higher For a Better Life cover. It was proceeded by a "driving higher for a better life" sample. Eh, I could have done without the sample. The extras on the end are pretty amusing. Cover of the Rolling Stone, an In The Crosshairs take on "Where the Warzone Women at?" ... Check it out.
Wisdom In Chains - Die Young - Spook City Records 024 - 2005
![]() Most Spook City Records' releases aren't really up my alley. A little too tough crew, a little too hard. Great stuff in that vein, just not my shit. This album is the exception to the rule. It's different from anything I have received from the label before. It's not Buried Alive hard, or Hatebreed mosh. In fact, it reminds me of hard Oi. Yeah, I know. It doesn't make any sense to me either, but that is what I'm hearing. Not pop, but oi. Except hard. Like the if the Dropkick Murphys had grown up on a diet of Blood For Blood, H2O, Sick Of It All and Madball. Let me wrap it up with this pic from the Wisdom In Chains site. The one thing I immediately noticed was the kid stage diving in Nike Air Safaris. That's all the proof I need.
Lose None - Warrior Blood - Blood Money Records 002 - 2005 -- Friday, December 02, 2005 Um, what can I say here? This CD isn't really something I would ever pick up. Actually, someone stuffed it into a package I won off of ebay. Not sure if it was the guy from Blood Money Records or someone from Lose None. ![]() ![]() Check their site for a couple of tracks and some pics. If you dig hardcore with a heavy, heavy influence (so heavy at times that I can't tell if the vocals are digitally tweaked or not), this may be up your alley. It's not really for me, but hey, more power to these guys. I will say the layout out by Juicy Joel, yes Juicy Joel is pretty original. Haven't seen something like this one before.
