At Both Ends Magazine Available ...
-- Sunday, January 03, 2010
If you haven't ordered and read At Both Ends Magazine yet, you are an idiot. Read what Stevie says below then go order immediately. Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the At Both Ends magazine / 2x7" package is now available. I'm really excited with how this has turned out and can't wait for people to get this in their hands. The fastest way to get your hands on a copy is by heading over to AtBothEndsMagazine.com and following the instructions there. Any questions about this should be directed to info@AtBothEndsMagazine.com. Here's what's in the package: One 148-page magazine/book that compiles two new issues worth of At Both Ends Magazine and two 7" records with new, exclusive songs from Bane, Grade, Unrestrained (ex-Pulling Teeth/Desperate Measures) and Between Earth And Sky (ex-Trial, Catharsis, By A Thread, Walls Of Jericho). The Bane songs are NOT found on any of the 7"s in the Dublin/Boston/LA/etc. series. Included in the magazine are articles and interviews with Bane, Sick of it All, Verse, Shook Ones, Bill Stevenson, Sparkmarker, Anchor, Shai Hulud, Greg Bennick, Devotion, Wait In Vain, To Kill and way more. This is about as packed as a zine can get. The magazine is perfect bound with glossy pages and colour covers. Printing is similar to a book and is higher quality than pretty much any commercial magazine you will find in a store. All-in-all this is a really beautiful package. Check out what Hanging Hex has to say about it: "Well, someone certainly has set the bar higher. I guess if you're going to go out do it in a way that's going to make everyone else attempting to publish something in print basically give up... Steve has laid down an excellent final issue." All the other info can be found at AtBothEndsMagazine.com. Thanks for your support. Labels: feature Get Outta Town goes the way of Radiohead In Rainbows ... -- Wednesday, September 23, 2009
I know what you are thinking. "That headline makes no sense" Oh, but it does. Get Outta Town Records has just created their own digital download store. That's right. And get this, you can get albums based on DONATIONS. That's right. So if you think the new DEA album is worth $5,000, you can purchase it for that much. Each album downloaded comes down in 128kbps (semi yucky) but if you donate MORE, you can get higher rips (yay!). So head on over and grab that Get Outta Town Records 2009 sampler. Make sure you donate at least $45 for it. And then tell Charles I sent you. Maybe I can get some referral bonus ... ;) Labels: feature Get Outta Town - The X-Rated Skate Deck ... -- Monday, August 31, 2009

Seminal hardcore and straight-edge band Gorilla Biscuits teams up with Super7 once again for the final release of the figure based on their debut 7" cover. A tribute to the 12" G.I. Joe figures of the 1970's, heavily collected by Civ as well as many of the early Revelation records staff, the figure is cast in army green vinyl and comes packaged in a wooden footlocker with wraparound art of the Gorilla up to his elbows in urban warfare. ![]() Bidip Bo! Somethings sold for surprisingly cheap, while others skyrocketed. It's the signs of the times, I guess. This shirt is classic. Classic logo, classic design, classic colourway. It breaks my heart that it only sold for $11. Kids are slipping. Now this shirt by Down To Nothing is a current classic. I really enjoy this shirt. The font is nice and big, easy to read from across the room, and the message is great. A nice feature is that it DOES NOT SAY Down To Nothing on it. What about that? Great shirt. Just another quality looking tshirt. Every time I peep this shirt, the Warzone Super Bowl of Hardcore tee comes to mind. I'm 100% positive that was the inspiration for this one. Great shirt. Here's a laid back Floorpunch shirt. No mention of "Straight Edge" but that's cool, I guess. I think if the logo had been screened on straighter, it would have jacked the price higher. A great tee. Anyone got one in Large for me? This shirt rules. No doubt. Jay Bil designed this one up. And then Jason Barrow GAVE them away to any kid who walked into Anchors Up that was X'ed up. What about that? He gave away these shirts. Great shirt. The Final Mosh tee. Not many were made. Probably a top 5 show for me. Such an amazing time. Check youtube for the video. It was bananas start to finish. Great show, great 3 sided tee. Pretty decent price too. In the mid 90s, Rev Records was big on embroidery. Maybe everyone was, but I distinctly remember Rev doing all sorts of embroidered stuff. I specifically recall an Into Another hoodie at my local Bull Moose. It was there for months. It was a XXL maroon hoodie with the giant Into Another star logo embroidered on it in a deep purple. Such a wackie hood. I wish I had picked it up. I wish I had not slept on this crewneck too. Crewneck - Crucial. Revelation Records - Crucial. Embroidered - ... Crucial? Well, at least it's pretty fucking awesome. It seems weird to me that these two Have Heart items went for so cheap. Maybe the market is saturated, but I would have expected them to jump in price with the break up rumors coming true. Great design, and a HUGE "Straight Edge." You know I like that. Right Brigade is awesome. So is this tee. Someone got a steal for a lousy $12. That's the price of 3 lattes from Starbucks. Someone won big. I was pretty curious to see what this tee would do. I spotted it on ebay and took it for an older boot. That's the case. Turns out it is an early to mid 90s Chris Kelly (97A, Straight and Alert Fanzine) boot. Quality repro, no doubt. If it hadn't broken the $40 mark, I would have snagged it. WAY better than that Hundreds x Chain Of Strength collab. I love this band. Great tee too. Another simple, classic tee. Too bad it's pit stained. Maybe that'll oxyclean out. Good luck to the winner on that one. A great tee, regardless. Follow Through Crew! Here's an older Uniform Choice shirt. It's not 4 or even 3 sided, but it's still damn cool. I was a little surprised at how low it ended honestly. Like I said, kids are crazy. And since Casali already owns one, you didn't have to fight him for it! Here we see another Jay Bil masterpiece. Funny note from the auction: The print is numbered 38of50 and signed by "Jay Balls" (no idea what that stands for, sorry if it's obvious). That made me laugh. Jay Bil kills it with this one. I contemplated picking it up as the one I have is roughed up, but I slept. Look at that lineup! So ridic. CBGBS rip. Remember when bright orange XL longsleeves were the rage? Or maybe a dark mustard XXL tee. Wow. This is a cool longsleeve but the color is a little too wild for most. That could explain the price tag it ended with. Good pick up for the winner of that one. Side By Side rules. This demo tee was always a little silly for my taste, but you can't knock Side By Side. A great repro that went wildly under the radar. Straight from the Jersey Shore, Hardware Fanzine came with this great shirt. The fanzine put out two shirts. Both are great. I like the grey one a little more. I'm pretty anti-partial to black shirts at this point. Give me ash grey or white. Cold World always hit hard in the merch arena. They always had some sort of crazy rip off tee. Whether it was North Face, Side By Side or BAPE, they always put out a great shirt. This one is nice in that it is SIMPLE. A one color BAPE rip off. I like it (even though it is a black tee). Bidding started at $99 for this watch and it didn't move for days. Then someone jumped on that BIN price and got themselves a great looking watch. Condition seems great. Good for them. What's the deal with this longsleeve? I'm just not sure. Was it reprinted at some point? Everyone of these longsleeves I have seen have been beat to shit. I've owned FOUR in my lifetime, and they were all super faded and semi shredded. Either a) this guy found a gem or b) this is some reprint. I know the seller had some boots/repros up at the same time so I just don't know. There you have it folks. April & May. Good times. Peace. Click here for more tees ... Is it just me, or has Ebay been extremely slow on the shirt sales? I would assume the tough economic times would provide an environment for more sellers to sell more items. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, people are ducking their heads and stocking away all their gear. Strange, right? A few gems and interesting items were sold. Lets check them out. This one was on Ebay before. It caused a stir then and caused a stir now. This time around, the bidder flaked, and it was put back up. I expected it to end for more than $59 considering there are less than 18 out there. But what do I know? This is a used bootleg, but it still sold for $20 bucks, plus shipping from Italy. That just proves how awesome a design this is. Classic, no doubt. I love this long sleeve. It has chill graphics and isn't in your face. Just a real old school look. And the bleach stains ADD to it's quality feel. I did my part and bid on it, but obviously I didn't bid enough. I keep looking for those cheap deals, trying to keep my money close to home, really. Same seller, similarly awesome tee. This was a one off. The seller happened to have an in at B9 and helped print up a few weirdo shirts. This was one of them. Something about this design just catches me. It really works. Others must have felt the same because they worked it up over $20. Nuff said on this shirt. So amazing. Now, I've never seen this sweatshirt before. Not sure how or where it came from. It has quality colors and a classic look. Just top notch looking. Not sure how I've never come across one before. Looks great. Here's one that snuck under the wire. It appears to be a Fall Tour shirt from WAAAY back to 1999. And that's what it is. But it's more. This is actually one of the misprint shirts that somehow got produced. The regular shirt has two screens on the back. ![]() There are probably less than 2 dozen with one screen on the back making this one of the most rare Bane shirts ever produced. Hopefully the seller decides to relist and someone scores a great tee. And last, I can't decide if this shirt is the coolest thing ever, or the worst thing ever. I just can't decide. Judge Hammers = Cool. US Straight Edge = Cool. But the combo and screen sizes. I just can't decide. What do you think? So that was March. Hopefully April has more gems and oddities. We'll see. Peace. All in all, it barely made any sense to me. But 2008 is over and done with, and here's the last wrap up for '08. There's a couple of gems in here. Check it. Al made up some shirts in his basement and 15 years later, made $26 on the negative films, or something like that. Not bad at all, Al! Wow, this one was beat. Great design, but beat. Too bad. Quality looking bootleg, if that's your bag. Good price for a white tee regardless of what's printed on it. This one was the re-list from last month's wrap up. Last time, it didn't meet the reserve (it ended at $33). This time it hit $45. I think I deserve a cut, right! ;) I've always wanted an original Schism logo tee. I've never see one though. Hell, I've barely ever seen boots. I bid on this a few times, but once it started peaking over $40, I tossed in the towel. No thanks, dudes. If anyone has a legit Schism logo tee, hook it up! Another boot. Another outrageous price. Old H2O tee. Guess kids aren't into XL ringers. Weird. Old Smorgasbord records tee. Fun fact. There is a rumor that kids would buy the 10th anniversary tee shirts (From 97, I think), then cut the sleeves off. They would then sew a sleeve from a color matched shirt back on, giving them an '87 styled tee. What about that?? Great tee. Great tee. No doubt about it. It looks a little beat, but well worth the amount spent. I hope the new owner wears it with pride. This band has chill merch. And for some reason, it almost always resells for ridiculous amounts of money. Take this crewneck. It's less than a year old. In fact, they may still sell them on their tour. Wowza. I think this one must have slid under the wire. Weird. Here's a quality tee. Sharp logo, great look, no weird blurry Matt picture either. This makes me want to sell my american nightmare demo. YIKES! The seller claimed this tee was original. I am doubting that. It's easily 19 years old. No way that shirt would have held up that well. No way. Great shirt though. Hey look, another Bold Speak Out tee. This one clocks in for 6 more dollars than the last one. Not too shabby. I've got a bit of a Bane buying habit. That's not too bad when a hooded sweatshirt sells for less than $10. If anyone has one that I don't have, look me up. I want yours. Plain and simple. It says what needs saying and leaves crappy graphics blowing in the wind. This shirt is probably 11-12 years old. Looks great. This lasted for about 2 days on ebay. MAYBE. Probably less. Someone must have offered a good BIN price because the seller yanked it down. Anyone know how much it went for? No bids. Funny story: I became straight edge in early 1998. Prior to that, I didn't want to purchase any tees that screamed STRAIGHT EDGE. During March of 1998, I drove to Detroit Fest (held in Wayne, Michigan, oddly enough) with 2 great friends. It was at this event that I decided it would be ok to purchase straight edge gear. Andrew Thomas CO had a merch table set up (probably wedged between a vegan cookie table and a zine table) and I grabbed one of their shirts. Actually, they had a portable clothing rack with shirts on hangers. High class! The first sxe shirt I purchased is the one pictured above. Oddly, that seller could have purchased it from me a few years ago and decided to resell it now. Who knows? Second fun fact: People referred to this shirt as my "Hampton Beach Straight Edge Shirt." LOL! This is a fine way to wrap up December. This one ended on the last day and sort of chafed my ass. The seller purchased this shirt straight from Bill Punch during a phase where Bill sold all his remaining FP tees. Now I know the seller didn't pay Bill Punch even half that much for that tee. I actually tried to get it from Bill when he was selling it originally but he already promised it to this other kid. And crap, this kid sells it on ebay a few months later, likely unworn. Damn it. So there you have it. That's December 2008. Some steals, some deals, some general wackiness. Until next month ... Labels: feature News from Panic Records! -- Monday, January 05, 2009

November was a BIG month in certain sales. Some things went huge while others flew under the wire. Check it. Oh and don't mind those early December Ebay auctions ... To be perfectly honest, I've never been the biggest Wide Awake fan. I dig Wide Awake, but of all the schism releases, this one is my least favorite. HOWEVER, the wide awake schism tees are ILL! No doubt. This one and the long sleeve are near perfect. I forgot to bid on this one. D'oh. This lot contained 5 test presses. 2 LPs and 3 EPs. If you do the math, that's $240 per test press. Realistically, that's a steal. If you chopped this auction into 5 auctions, I bet the return would have been closer to $2k. C'est La Vie! I was hoping this was going to end cheap. That would help usher in cheaper prices for Stop And Think gear. It didn't happen like I wanted it to. Anyone got a SNT tank top for me? Hook it up. Here we have almost the same exact hood for the same exact price. One minor difference, I think. The one that didn't sell is the "second press" of the hood. This one has a friggin tiny hood. No idea why, but it's freaking tiny. The second one pictured appears to be the "first pressing" with a regular, human sized hood. Pretty good price for the hood at this point. All closets should contain at least ONE wishing well shirt. This would have been a great addition to my closet. It wasn't meant to be though. Another great, old gem. I wasn't sure on the condition of this particular tee. It either has a weird yellow/gross stain all over the back or the picture was taken in the worst lighting ever. Didn't matter, the seller pulled the auction relatively fast. I've never seen this tee in a tank version. I was pretty impressed when this hit ebay. I'm not sure how it ended for so much money though. Are tanks cool again? In December?? Not for me. Great design. Hopefully the winner doesn't think this tank top was for the Boston Straight Edge band Step Forward. Fingers crossed. This tee came in two different colors. It's often called the demo tee, or the hold your ground tee. One version has light blue ink, the other has purple. This would be the purple version. I like it. Good looking tee. Maybe people forgot what edge day is or perhaps what happened on 10/17? I don't know. Someone dropped the ball on a cool shirt from 8 years ago, though. Great tee. I got mine from Dan Christie back in the day. I then traded it away. Stupid move, of course. I was hoping to pick up this one for cheap, but fat chance of that happening. Oh well. The first time this was listed, no one bid on it. WACK. This shirt came in a few colors. White with purple ink, white with orange ink, orange with white ink and purple with white ink. The purple with white ink is a favorite of mine. Anyone got one for trade? Do you see the difference here folks? It's all about "how you list your item." If you're smart and do your homework, you have the potential to double your profits. Since you'd probably want a new strap for the first watch anyway, the mis-listed lot was basically the same watch plus a bonus. Either way, someone is going to have a crucial holiday season. So there you have it. Save up that holiday loot because post Christmas ebay is going to get crazy. You can count on that. Labels: feature It's Time To React! Note: Normally, I reserve the front page for Facts, Figures and Stats. Today, I break the mold and go for an editorial. You'll see, however, that this one has value and merit. Listen up and keep the scene positive. It was brought to my attention that in the last few weeks and months, a new arm of National Socialism (aka NAZI fucks) has latched onto Straight Edge as one of their key ideologies. There has been a big push in Russia and Germany along this front. In my mind, that is completely fucked. Their concept of "Poison Free" goes AGAINST the non-violent and tolerant ideals of Straight Edge. Straight Edge is very simple -- no booze, no drugs. It's about keeping a clear mind. End of story. Somewhere along the line, someone thought to tack on a "no promiscuous sex" addendum. Sure, if that's your thing, go for it, but that has nothing to do with straight edge. Later, someone tacked on vegetarianism and healthy living. I fully support that (I've been vegan since 1997) but that is not what straight edge is. And straight edge HAS NEVER and WILL NEVER be about racism, fascism, intolerance or hate. ![]() Ten Yard Fight summed it up nicely, in a tongue in cheek sense, in their song "Pit Of Equality." We don't care if you're black or white. And that's the truth. You can be black, purple, yellow, amish, jewish, tall, fat, short, awkward, funny, stupid, ... It's in German, and is littered with fourteens, eighty-eights and pro-Nazi comments. I strongly suggest you DO NOT view this at work. October was a busy month on ebay. Maybe dudes were unloading stuff pre Edge Day in order to clean up on the Straight Edge frenzy. I know I saw plenty of dope shirts at the Edge Day show. Or maybe it's the economic downturn and people needed the loot more than the shirt on their back. Whatever it was, October had some wacky sales. Check it. This one comes straight out of Lost And Found records. A bootleg, of course, but a sort of sharp looking one. Can you do any less? Mr. Sparkle plus Bane. Chalk this up to Mr. Nick Branigan and Pete Chilton. Great shirt. Sold around the Hell Fest 2000 shows. Pretty limited. Last show tshirt. Of course, GB would reunite and play more shows, but at the time, this tee was screened for the last show. It resembles the lid to a pizza box. I've never really seen one sell for this much before. Then again, I haven't seen one on ebay in quite some time. Here's a strange auction. Cool shirt that two bidders got in a crazy bidding war over. Zany. No bids after 6 days so I emailed the seller. Offered $25 shipped which was immediately excepted. Later, I found out the seller was someone I had met a few years back. Cool dude. Great record label... Chill tee. Apparently dudes aren't psyched on ash grey XLs? I don't know. This design is cool. It says nothing about Down To Nothing or Hardcore or Straight Edge. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it came from AJ Wright. Great design for a crewneck. Very chill. Cover songs. Lots of cool bands. Lots of weird bands. An interesting mix: Earthmover, Until Today, Ensign, Reinforce, Reach the Sky, the Letterbombs, Extinction, Close Call, Eyelid, Supersleuth, Roundhouse, Ten Yard Fight, Standard Issue, Death Threat, Bane, and Bloodpact. Add the fact that it is a test press, and you have ebay gold. Your guess is as good as mine. This appears to be an older Rev tee that has shrunk something considerable. Cool tee, but $61? I just don't know about that. Great tee. All of these have aged pretty roughly over the years. Could be the bullet proof thick ink jobs. I'm not sure, but most seem to have considerable cracking. The seller even throws in The Only Way CD. Good buy. A chill tee. New Age Records created this series of tees with slogans on them. This was one of them. There's another that talks about ending gangs, and maybe a few about sxe and vegetarianism. Pretty cool concept. I didn't even know people were still vegan ... I kid. I'm vegan. Cool tee, a little weird. Looks like it'd be the perfect shirt to wear to Detroit Fest in 1996. GO (VEGAN)! Did this slip under the radar or are people against XL shirts? I'm guessing a little of both. It worked out for me. I think it came to $4.75 shipped. Dope. Ugh, don't get me started on this tee or this seller. Please. Cool reprint from Justin Thunder Lizard. Cheap wearable scoop. I'll take it. Smorgasborg is the new Smorgasbord apparently. So is super tailoring tees. Yuck. Someone either got a great deal (due to a title miss-spelling) or a terrible deal due to the tailoring. We'll have to ask the winner once it arrives, I suppose. So there you have it. Here's a new feature. Every now and then, I'm going to bring you a Day in the Life with some of your favorite people in the hardcore scene. You may think they live that rock star lifestyle -- partying all night, hanging with dimes, getting ill mid 80s EPs for cheap. If you know that person, introduce him to me, I could use some old tees. In reality, these guys are like you me. They bust their ass to make ends meet and pay the bills. AND somehow, they still manage to promote the scene and better their local community. For starters, I give you Charles Chaussinand. Everything you read after this was written by him. See how he rolls. ![]() Get Outta Town Records is a single man operation run out of my apartment in Orlando, Fl. I have been running the label for about three years and in that time done 16 releases. The label, coupled with my mastering studio, is the only jobs I have on a day to day basis. With the recent decline in people buying music, it gets tougher and tougher to run the label as a self sustaining business, but I guess I will just keep doing that until it no longer can work. I really take little to no money out of the label for living expenses and just try and keep things rolling to get cool releases out. ![]() Each day, I get up around 8:00AM and begin by checking my emails and replying to everyone that is on a different time zone than I am. I get enough emails in a day to make answering them nearly a full time job in itself. I try and get the bulk of my responding and contacting done in the morning to free up the rest of the day for promotion or whatever the day needs. Today, I had to work on artwork for an upcoming Kid Dynamite Tribute release I am doing with Black Numbers Records. I really have no digital graphics skill, but I am forced to handle everything I can in doing a small label, so I push my skill to its limits. I usually do the mastering on my releases, so I usually send out files that need approval by the bands in the morning as well. ![]() Once the emails are cleared out, I start seeing what I need to do either for an upcoming release or for a form of promotion. I utilize a lot of free promotion on message boards and submit-able online news sites where I can. Most of the print ads I design myself, so sometimes this time in the day is dedicated to working on that. Usually, a written out promotional update is what I work on and make sure it gets posted pretty much everywhere I can think to put it. Every few that I post, I go back through and bump the previous ones to make sure people get to see them. Luckily, there are sites like HOWSYOUREDGE and PASTEPUNK that people will post your news up because they are just kind enough to want to help. I also try and think of cool stuff I can promote or push through my distributor, RevHQ. They are the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. They really go out of their way to help smaller labels and to make sure you're happy with what is going on. I can be certain that they have a lot of larger labels then Get Outta Town Records that send them more emails then I do, but they always get back to anything I write them almost immediately and are always interested in doing fun pushes on records. ![]() If I haven't got promotion to do, I am usually working on something for a new release. I recently had to track down all of the members I could from Violent Children so that I could ask them about a re-issue that I had the idea of doing. Not an easy task to find some of these guys. Anytime I get a release idea, I write it down in my smartphone and try and think of the feasibility of what my idea is. I like making the releases a little different. I like to include something extra in the vinyl releases, like the Kill Your Idols box set that includes five 7"s, a booklet, 6.5" x 6.5" two color screened poster, sticker, pin and patch, or the insert that is a full color poster for Attitude. ![]() There is a good amount of thought that goes into that stuff, as well as personal care. I designed the poster for the Attitude LP's, though I have my aforementioned limited graphics skill, and I screen printed the posters, patches, stickers and put the whole box together for the Kill Your Idols release. With CDs it is more difficult because of the limited space and the releases being shrink-wrapped when they get to me. I try to do some cool artwork with them or maybe include some cool tracks or something. I can certainly say that I don't put out any records that I don't like. Many labels will go on band hype or doing something they think will really sell just because it will really sell, but I only work with bands that put out records that I would buy. While I run a business, I always thought that was what defined hardcore were people doing things because they wanted to and not because of "members of" or whatever else. Seems to sometimes be going the opposite way and great bands get overlooked while others get recognition for little effort. By this time in the day, my roommate is usually getting off of work and, lately, we've been playing racquetball a bunch. Fun game if you haven't played. When we get back from that, I check my emails again and answer as many as I have. I make myself dinner, watch a few episodes of MacGyver off of my DVD collections, and then go to bed with my cats to get up the next day and do it again. Some may say I have a glamorous life, even, the most glamorous. I say to this, yes, I do. ![]() Thanks for reading about what I do with my label and if you have any questions on how to start a label on your own, please get in touch with me. I suppose it's only a few months old but it has a ton of things going for it. A) white tees rule! B) white tees with purple ink RULE. C) Big screens, lots of chill mix tapes and sleeve print. D) It's a friggin COLD WORLD tee folks! Cold World merch is usually solid gold as far as ebay goes. No idea. I think it's chill. Maybe kids are against size Large white tees. That's ok. More for me. This shirt is cool. I own this particular colorway. Anyone got a maroon and white one for me? There should be a ton of these tees floating around somewhere. I recall seeing BOXES and BOXES of these arrive at the show. More than expected, I think. Maybe they were all bought by Merrimack Valley heads, who knows? This is a cool little souvenir. I don't know, I like it. Then again, I'm a Bane and In My Eyes nerd. But hey, it was only $4 shipped, and it reminds me of some awesome times that were had that night. I still need to get my screened poster framed. Shit. I have to remember to do that. I recall buying one of these from Pat a bunch of years ago. It's a dope shirt, no doubt. I then traded mine plus some other stuff for a Floorpunch on gold. SCORE! Besides the wishingwell 4 sided tee, this is probably my favorite YOT shirt. I mean, look at that back image. Rad. Some of you may not be familiar with Release. That's a shame. Release was dope. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the bands these dudes went on to form. I'm sure everyone has heard of Floorpunch and 108 ... If you haven't, how did you even find this website?? This shirt is pretty rad. White tee, green ink. Classic combo. I've seen shirts in better quality but finding a mint Release shirt is like finding a Honus Wagner card. I watched this auction VERY closely. I was hoping to scoop it for cheap. The seller listed it as an "x-rate" watch. Typing "x-rated" into ebay found no matches. I was hoping to scoop for cheap. Especially consider that 3 of the 4 prongs on one end of the watch had snapped off. If it had stayed cheap, I would have scooped and had the parts for an auto conversion. But it jumped in the end. Someone else must have been smart when searching. I heard the new owner may be a member of the band Energy ... Cool. And finally. OOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF. $1? Seriously, $1? Oh man. That sort of pains me. No big deal, I guess. When I sold them on the west coast, kids loved them. I had some lines to deal with and sold a bunch. I put a lot of effort into them. Hell, they are even on unbleached cotton American Apparel tees! Oh well, someone got themselves a deal. That's all for this week. We saw highs and lows, scoops and pains. That's ebay, I guess. Peace. It was page after page of drivel, really. Some cool facts but not what I had dreamt it was going to be. ![]() Radio Silence is the antithesis of that book. In fact, he still attends shows, puts out records and owes me an In My Eyes shirt or two (heheheh). He also realizes that hardcore is alive and kicking. Once again, we have another NBD. Larry Ransom. This guy ... this guy. Yeah. Dude is ill. When he's not posting ill videos of Youth Of Today or "The Archive," he's posting ill photos and video of Mike V or Tom Green. Definitely worth bookmarking. It also makes me wish there was a Jersey Mike's in the northeast! Double Cross Webzine is a daily no brainer. Again -- Friday, June 13, 2008
According to this Myspace bulletin, How's Your Edge? com has ruined hardcore AGAIN. We all realize that HYE ruined hardcore once by hosting the Edge Break List. But now, we've gone and done it again. We've turned a poor grass roots institution into a designer handbag-only event. ![]() Text Hows my Edge? Not so good since I am not sxe. Hardcore has become about materialism thanks to sites like Hows my Edge. It is pretty cool to look at some of the rare stuff people have but it also definitely stinks of materialism. I remember a time when most kids into hardcore were poor, sxe or not, and merch was cheaper and/or given out for free. But now hardcore is for the rich little bastards that are singing along to lyrics that 80 percent of them cannot relate too. No wonder why many great bands get disillusioned and break up. It is also one of the reasons why Ian Mackaye wants nothing to do with the scene he started. I don't blame him one bit.I had planned on breaking this paragraph down sentence by sentence. But I won't. It's just too mind boggling of an issue. For those of you who don't think we've ruined hardcore, thanks for sticking around the last 7 years (fuck, 7 years. That's a long time). A few days back while hanging with Bane, I noticed they were selling some shirts that had already previously been printed. Then I got to thinking about how I had some shirts at home that struck me as odd when I got them. They were definitely different than the originals I had purchased, but without closely investigating, I could not put my finger on it. That's what I did yesterday. I spent a while taking pictures of shirts, and will point out differences. You'll notice all the shirts are Bane, but this could apply to any band. Opinion #1: original printings are always more inspired than reprints. Obviously. Opinion #2: Reprints always have an "off" feeling to them. I'm not sure what it is, but something always feels odd. Bane 10th Anniversary Shirt (note cupcake on back) ![]() ![]() Bane 10th Anniversary reprint Shirt (note ZERO cupcake on back) ![]() ![]() Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right) ![]() Not the reprint uses a less yellow/more orange ink, has less sparkle in the gold print and appears slightly muddy. Bane - Iron Eagle tee ![]() Bane - Iron Eagle tee Reprint ![]() Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right) ![]() ![]() I call this the Iron Eagle tee. I'm sure someone else has a different name for it. Who knows. Anyway, you can see the differences. They are very subtle, but they exist. First off, the shirts are completely different brands and qualities. The original is on an American Apparel tee, while the reprint is on a Hanes tee. Nothing new or terrible about that. I'm sure it happens all the time. Printers probably use whatever tees they have available in the specified color given. I'm can't imagine there is a big push for "baby puke green" american apparel tees. As for the screens, the prints are just slightly different. It could be the amount of ink used per shirt, or they could be different screens. I'm not 100%. But if you view the reprint, you'll notice more well defined black areas. And it appears "less vintage," less pitted and spotted. Again, this could be the ink amount, but I feel it loses a little of that original appeal. Bane - Crowded Rooms tee ![]() ![]() Bane - Crowded Rooms tee Reprint ![]() ![]() Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right) ![]() ![]() The crowded rooms tee is the most noticeable and obvious reprint situation. Actually, the reprint shirts came from the Australian tour. I suppose it was probably cheaper to have some shirts printed in Australia then to lug them 2000 plus miles and pay all the fees associated with brining in merch. However, the reprint does the tee an injustice, I think. While the inks used on the front are bright and vibrant, they seem to detract from the gritty "give blood" splatter logo vision. The ink is also much thicker on the front giving it more of a Nickelodeon "Double Dare" feel then a hardcore tee. The back side is the major injustice. The image has been shrunk to the point where everyone pictured appears to be a smurfy blur. I'm not saying the original image was crisp and brilliant, but the sense of what was going on is visible in the original image. The reprint -- not so much. There you have it. I'm sure I missed a few subtleties that a reader or two will notice. Feel free to clue me in. And in conclusion, for bands: just make new designs. Kids love fresh new shirts. I know sometimes it is hard to make a new design during the middle of tour, but that's why you have friends back home or anywhere on the globe. Get them to whip something up, don't dig into the back catalog unless the design is classic. That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed the pics and discussion. Normally I would leave this kind of post up to bidhardcore.com but this one really struck me as awesome. First up is the test press for the In My Eyes Nothing To Hide LP. I believe Scott P once offered to off someone for one of these. It's pretty amazing, but that BIN is mind boggling. Next up is 5 different Uniform Choice LPs. All Screaming For Change, but all different color variations. Getting Wishingwell LPs on color vinyl is pretty damn hard (unless you are talking about the insted lp, that seems to always be around in white vinyl). In this auction, you get 5 different ones. All the real color pressings and a few variation colors. Dope. You should also note that he says " i have atleast 30 uc colors in my collection, and somewhat 3 complete sets of these colors..." Good lord! Sadly, the owner is selling them to buy a Nirvana EP. I think it is safe to assume that he is high. Those BIN prices pretty much back up my claim (even if the BIN on the UC was $2.5k last night, and is now reduced to $2.2k. Yikes). Peace. well daddy don't you know that things go in cyclesConsider that the truth. It holds in basically all aspects of life, including hardcore shirt sales on ebay. This week, we'll be reviewing how shirt size, design and current popularity affect final auction prices. Lets start if off with American Nightmare. Now American Nightmare is HUGE. No doubt. They've always been big. Even when they just had a demo out (fuck, such an amazing demo). Things go in cycles, check this auction that ended this morning (while I was in a meeting, double fuck). This shirt dates WAY back. Probably 2000 or 2001. That's 7 years ago for those who aren't counting. And somehow, SOMEHOW, this dope shirt ended for $5.50. That's right, $5.50. That's the same price as a Triple Venti Soy Latte at Starbucks. You can see the ridiculousness now. However, it's a size large, and we all know that kids love schmediums or YLs these days. Plus, the image doesn't scream Fall Out Boy / Emo Fan. It probably wouldn't go well with a white belt either. Plus, the image doesn't scream Fall Out Boy / Emo Fan. It probably wouldn't go well with a white belt either. Then there is this shirt. I recall this one sitting on the merch table for a bit. Cool drawing, I suppose. Super emo. And a size small. Yeap, $26 final price. And of course, I believe this value is down from previous months when this shirt was selling for $40+. Is the American Nightmare hype over? Moving on, lets check Cold World. So here we have an unworn Youth Large. But the color is semi-dreaded white. That should be ok, a lot of Cold World shirts are printed on white blanks (more bands should print on white blanks. Eff a black shirt. I'm not emo, I don't need anymore black shirts). And those other shirts sell reasonably well. But for some reason, this shirt came in at a paltry $5. Yeap, cheaper than that fancy latte. And I bought one a month back for $2.25. What's going on here? This shirt is chill. White shirt, size small and worn. You're probably thinking, ok, this one should clock in pretty low at final auction price. Not so. This one hit $26. Most likely due to the Bathing Ape reference. Of course, this shirt was on MerchNOW for what seemed like years. And yes, someone did cut the tags out of the shirt. SMH. Ok, so maybe kids are finicky over newer bands. What about a perennial favorite like Ten Yard Fight? This shirt has obviously been around the block. Hell it's over 10 years old and probably has seen a pit or two. It is a size XL but kids aren't afraid of tailoring so you'd think it'd be a hot and heavy seller. Nope. The $1.25 minimum bid wasn't even made. Not one bidder! Sacrilege. So the last shirt had no bidders. This shirt appears to be in the same condition and is definitely from the same age, but shockingly, this one sold for $20.50. I guess, kids are still afraid of tailoring, or just wearing clothes that don't show off their man nips. We'll finish it off with Mental. Mental shirts are always ill in my opinion. Greg Mental, Jay Bil and even MorGODo (just kidding Morgado) produced some ill shirts over the years. Now this was a pretty dope little design. Take the album cover, play with placement and BAM, chill shirt. I think Greg and Co did a bunch of different colourways for this shirt (grey/blue, black/blue, black/white, ...). This one is definitely chill. But somehow, it only sold for $1.34. You can't even buy a blank t-shirt for that little. That's just stupid. Here's a cool MorGODo drawing, chill colors and size small. I would estimate this one would sell for over $20. At the very least. Was I right? No. Was I close? Not really. This one clocked in at $4.29, which is the price of a Venti Soy Latte (two shots of espresso, instead of 3). That pretty much hurts my feelings. So what can I conclude from this array of ebay end auctions? Honestly? Not a hell of a lot. Except that kids are picky petes and wouldn't know a good tshirt if it punched them in the face. I suppose that works in my favor though. Instead of fighting kids for Fastbreak tees, I can just sit back and let them come to me for pennies on the dollar. The real losers here are the sellers and the kids who don't properly appreciate Fastbreak and their merch (shout outs to AJT). Until next time, PEACE! And quit bidding on those 4 sided Uniform Choice tees. Labels: feature React Records is the Best! -- Sunday, February 24, 2008

Bane fans love Bane for their music. They are your average kid. They aren't Mr. Hardcore Shirt Collector. If they were that guy, the first shirt would have sold for WAY more than $9.50 (smoking gun design with black lettering). It's limited to a few dozen. And the West Coast 99 tour shirt that is limited to 2 dozen would also have fetched more loot. The Mr Sparkles shirt price can be attributed more to the logo than the limited supply. Most Bane fans wouldn't realize that shirt was only sold at a few shows, including an early Hellfest. They have no idea that ONE yellow one even exists (I still need that picture Mr. R). I believe the same can be said for the jacket. The limited nature isn't what drove the price up. It was driven up by the cool samurai pocket print. That's my guess. And the designs with no bids, well, sometimes designs just don't work on the consumer. In this case, Bane fans passed. Of course, I slept and forgot to bid so if you are holding one of those shirts, hook me up. Bane fans love Bane. They want to rock a zip hoodie. It hardly matters what color it is. These fans are not your obsessive shirt collector. They aren't WishingWell fanatics or individuals who care about bootlegs vs. OG prints. I know a few exceptions exist, but as far as stereotyping goes, I think I hit it square on. If you disagree, hit me up. We'll discuss. Peace. Labels: feature A Few Updates From The HYE? Go pick up the AMAZING new album from this legendary hardcore band. ![]() From a review on PunkNews.org Sounds about right. Close to 11 years ago, 108 released what was nearly their final full-length, Threefold Misery. The band would break up not long after, but not without clearly imprinting their mark on the hardcore/punk scene, leaving obvious influences on everyone from the Hope Conspiracy and American Nightmare to a more external-of-the-box act like Glassjaw. It would be easy to acknowledge that these followers practically perfected the formula 108 wrote, then tore up the blueprints and redrafted them themselves, but it's hard to imagine that 108 would actually come along and join them in that very act. However, it's precisely what 108's first post-reunion full-length, A New Beat from a Dead Heart, proves. On A New Beat from a Dead Heart, the listener is blessed with some of the band's most ambitious, heaviest, and fastest material to date. Instant classics like the slightly reworked yet even more pulverizing "Angel Strike Man" and the harrowed "Resurrect to Destroy" easily match up with old favorites like "Blood" and "When Death Closes Your Eyes." But what's all the more amazing is that the band wields that same creative touch that may have actually damaged their oldest albums in some fans' eyes, and employs it differently here to consistently positive results. The aforementioned "Resurrect to Destroy" finds frontman Robert Fish / Rasajara rhythmically singing under a level of distortion and in front of modestly wailing guitar riffs during the verses, bass-less, to which it creates a fantastic dynamic to where he begins to heed warning during the chorus: "Resurrect to destroy / resurrect to destroy / resurrection into annihilation." Rasajara talks up a utopian world in "The Sad Truth" -- literally, as the track's almost completely his spoken word reflected by his bandmates' fairly leveled musical ongoings. The one other mellow offering is "Walk Through Walls," a reggae-inflected, old-school post-hardcore jaunt that sounds like a jam session involving Bad Brains and Fugazi, with Rasajara howling the chorus in gloriously MacKaye fashion. As one could tell from the abovementioned songs, 108 continue to provoke thought without over-intellectualizing. "Bibles + Guns = The American Dream?" attempts to shift one's fixations from wants to needs, while "Guilt" briefly observes one's entitlement based on birth and gender. 108 hook up with some characters that weren't as high-profile 10 years ago -- namely, Deathwish Inc. and Kurt Ballou. The former is a perfect home for the metal/hardcore act and finds the label stylizing a perfectly sandy, rough finish to match 108's Krshna-inspired artwork. The latter lets 108 loose on all the band's creative detours, but thankfully, that band always know exactly where they're going -- Ballou merely pitches a dim but visible (audible) tent over their path. A New Beat from a Dead Heart doesn't just prove 108 hasn't lost their touch -- it shows that a complete resurrection has done them wonders, and in a perfectly succinct 34 minutes. 108 remain tied to their spiritual underpinnings, but hardly let it affect their aggression and socially conscious outrage. If this is just the re-beginning of things to come, it's safe to bet that the blood will be flowing easy for years to come. ![]() ![]() Check out Martyr Complex from our new LP and order the record which finally hits stores tomorrow, Tuesday, June 26! ![]() 108 "A New Beat..." With the opening bass line of "Declarations On A Grave", 108 transports listeners to a new aural plane with it's jarring grit and intensity. Standout track "Three Hundred Liars" is as musically infectious as they come, pulsing and writhing through it's many sonic twists and turns. And elsewhere on the album "Angel Strike Man" soars with a Bad Brains-esque white hot anger while "The Sad Truth" cuts deep with repetition and poignant poetic vocal styling. These, along with the other songs on the album, are all sonically unique and spiritually invigorating.
