At Both Ends Magazine Available ...
  -- Sunday, January 03, 2010

If you haven't ordered and read At Both Ends Magazine yet, you are an idiot. Read what Stevie says below then go order immediately.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the At Both Ends magazine / 2x7" package is now available. I'm really excited with how this has turned out and can't wait for people to get this in their hands. The fastest way to get your hands on a copy is by heading over to AtBothEndsMagazine.com and following the instructions there. Any questions about this should be directed to info@AtBothEndsMagazine.com.

Here's what's in the package:

One 148-page magazine/book that compiles two new issues worth of At Both Ends Magazine and two 7" records with new, exclusive songs from Bane, Grade, Unrestrained (ex-Pulling Teeth/Desperate Measures) and Between Earth And Sky (ex-Trial, Catharsis, By A Thread, Walls Of Jericho). The Bane songs are NOT found on any of the 7"s in the Dublin/Boston/LA/etc. series.

Included in the magazine are articles and interviews with Bane, Sick of it All, Verse, Shook Ones, Bill Stevenson, Sparkmarker, Anchor, Shai Hulud, Greg Bennick, Devotion, Wait In Vain, To Kill and way more. This is about as packed as a zine can get. The magazine is perfect bound with glossy pages and colour covers. Printing is similar to a book and is higher quality than pretty much any commercial magazine you will find in a store. All-in-all this is a really beautiful package.

Check out what Hanging Hex has to say about it:

"Well, someone certainly has set the bar higher. I guess if you're going to go out do it in a way that's going to make everyone else attempting to publish something in print basically give up... Steve has laid down an excellent final issue."

All the other info can be found at AtBothEndsMagazine.com. Thanks for your support.

Get Outta Town goes the way of Radiohead In Rainbows ...
  -- Wednesday, September 23, 2009

I know what you are thinking.

"That headline makes no sense"

Oh, but it does. Get Outta Town Records has just created their own digital download store. That's right. And get this, you can get albums based on DONATIONS. That's right. So if you think the new DEA album is worth $5,000, you can purchase it for that much. Each album downloaded comes down in 128kbps (semi yucky) but if you donate MORE, you can get higher rips (yay!).

So head on over and grab that Get Outta Town Records 2009 sampler. Make sure you donate at least $45 for it. And then tell Charles I sent you. Maybe I can get some referral bonus ... ;)

Just a smart looking board. Makes me want to x up and learn kick flips.

Ebay Wrap: April & May 2009 Edition ...
  -- Thursday, May 28, 2009

Lets just get right into it. April was semi slow, but if you dug deep enough, you could really score some gems for cheap. Somethings sold for surprisingly cheap, while others skyrocketed. It's the signs of the times, I guess.

Mouthpiece - Early shirt - $11

Lets just get right into it. April was semi slow, but if you dug deep enough, you could really score some gems for cheap. Somethings sold for surprisingly cheap, while others skyrocketed. It's the signs of the times, I guess.

Mouthpiece - Early shirt - $11

This shirt is classic. Classic logo, classic design, classic colourway. It breaks my heart that it only sold for $11. Kids are slipping.

Down To Nothing - Hanging Out Is What We Do Best - $30

Now this shirt by Down To Nothing is a current classic. I really enjoy this shirt. The font is nice and big, easy to read from across the room, and the message is great. A nice feature is that it DOES NOT SAY Down To Nothing on it. What about that? Great shirt.

War Hungry - Patriotic Warthog 2006 - $7

Just another quality looking tshirt. Every time I peep this shirt, the Warzone Super Bowl of Hardcore tee comes to mind. I'm 100% positive that was the inspiration for this one. Great shirt.

Floorpunch - Play Like A Champion - $31

Here's a laid back Floorpunch shirt. No mention of "Straight Edge" but that's cool, I guess. I think if the logo had been screened on straighter, it would have jacked the price higher. A great tee. Anyone got one in Large for me?

National Edge Day 2008 - $26

This shirt rules. No doubt. Jay Bil designed this one up. And then Jason Barrow GAVE them away to any kid who walked into Anchors Up that was X'ed up. What about that? He gave away these shirts. Great shirt.

Floorpunch - Final Mosh Tee - $72.00

The Final Mosh tee. Not many were made. Probably a top 5 show for me. Such an amazing time. Check youtube for the video. It was bananas start to finish. Great show, great 3 sided tee. Pretty decent price too.

Revelation Records - Embroidered Crewneck - $13

In the mid 90s, Rev Records was big on embroidery. Maybe everyone was, but I distinctly remember Rev doing all sorts of embroidered stuff. I specifically recall an Into Another hoodie at my local Bull Moose. It was there for months. It was a XXL maroon hoodie with the giant Into Another star logo embroidered on it in a deep purple. Such a wackie hood. I wish I had picked it up. I wish I had not slept on this crewneck too. Crewneck - Crucial. Revelation Records - Crucial. Embroidered - ... Crucial? Well, at least it's pretty fucking awesome.

Have Heart - Boston Straight Edge Sweatshirt - $22.50

Have Heart - Boston Straight Edge Longsleeve - $10.50

It seems weird to me that these two Have Heart items went for so cheap. Maybe the market is saturated, but I would have expected them to jump in price with the break up rumors coming true. Great design, and a HUGE "Straight Edge." You know I like that.

Right Brigade - Boiling Point Rip - $12.21

Right Brigade is awesome. So is this tee. Someone got a steal for a lousy $12. That's the price of 3 lattes from Starbucks. Someone won big.

Chain Of Strength - One Sided, No X - $52.91

I was pretty curious to see what this tee would do. I spotted it on ebay and took it for an older boot. That's the case. Turns out it is an early to mid 90s Chris Kelly (97A, Straight and Alert Fanzine) boot. Quality repro, no doubt. If it hadn't broken the $40 mark, I would have snagged it. WAY better than that Hundreds x Chain Of Strength collab.

Right Idea - Demo Tee - $13.00

I love this band. Great tee too.

Follow Through - Smorgasbord Tee - $10.00

Another simple, classic tee. Too bad it's pit stained. Maybe that'll oxyclean out. Good luck to the winner on that one. A great tee, regardless. Follow Through Crew!

Uniform Choice - 2 Sided, Older Wishingwell Design - $60.00

Here's an older Uniform Choice shirt. It's not 4 or even 3 sided, but it's still damn cool. I was a little surprised at how low it ended honestly. Like I said, kids are crazy. And since Casali already owns one, you didn't have to fight him for it!

American Nightmare/Bane/Mouthpiece/Reach The Sky @ CBGBs - Print#38/50 - $20.50

Here we see another Jay Bil masterpiece. Funny note from the auction:

The print is numbered 38of50 and signed by "Jay Balls" (no idea what that stands for, sorry if it's obvious).

That made me laugh. Jay Bil kills it with this one. I contemplated picking it up as the one I have is roughed up, but I slept. Look at that lineup! So ridic. CBGBS rip.

Texas Is The Reason - Longsleeve - $14.75

Remember when bright orange XL longsleeves were the rage? Or maybe a dark mustard XXL tee. Wow. This is a cool longsleeve but the color is a little too wild for most. That could explain the price tag it ended with. Good pick up for the winner of that one.

Side By Side - Demo Boot Tee - $3.25

Side By Side rules. This demo tee was always a little silly for my taste, but you can't knock Side By Side. A great repro that went wildly under the radar.

Hardware Fanzine - XXX - $10.65

Straight from the Jersey Shore, Hardware Fanzine came with this great shirt. The fanzine put out two shirts. Both are great. I like the grey one a little more. I'm pretty anti-partial to black shirts at this point. Give me ash grey or white.

Cold World - Bape Rip - $13.20

Cold World always hit hard in the merch arena. They always had some sort of crazy rip off tee. Whether it was North Face, Side By Side or BAPE, they always put out a great shirt. This one is nice in that it is SIMPLE. A one color BAPE rip off. I like it (even though it is a black tee).

X-Rated Swatch - $199 BIN

Bidding started at $99 for this watch and it didn't move for days. Then someone jumped on that BIN price and got themselves a great looking watch. Condition seems great. Good for them.

Sick Of It All - Blood Sweat Tears Longsleeve - $11.50

What's the deal with this longsleeve? I'm just not sure. Was it reprinted at some point? Everyone of these longsleeves I have seen have been beat to shit. I've owned FOUR in my lifetime, and they were all super faded and semi shredded. Either a) this guy found a gem or b) this is some reprint. I know the seller had some boots/repros up at the same time so I just don't know.

There you have it folks. April & May. Good times. Peace.

The Hundreds Hardcore Series ...
  -- Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Uh ...

The Hundreds got together with some old hardcore heads in the street wear scene: Johnny Cupcakes, Benny Gold, maybe Ryan Hoffman too, and came up with these designs. Some of you may know Bobby Hundreds from the hardcore scene. He's been down for many years now. I don't know what to say about these shirts though. It seems like they were be out of place in the Hardcore scene AND the Street wear scene. Maybe it's just me. Hell, I was complaining earlier about how solo Morrissey stuff is boring. And many people proclaimed, "it's just you." Could happen twice in one day. Weirder things have gone down before.

For the full scoop on the designers and shirts, click here. You can check eBay for the previous round of Hardcore shirts (H2O, Avail, ...) that hit the street.

You know what's weird? I drive by this Eagles facility every morning on my way to work (it's less than 2 miles from my house), and most mornings I think to myself, "I should book a show there." And boom, someone beat me to it!

I hope it has a good parking lot as I can see a lot of kids coming out for this one. That's the only thing I worry about that place. Maybe I should look into the VFW hall in Hudson. Great parking lot!

Lions Lions Signs to Panic Records
  -- Thursday, April 23, 2009

Timm's always keeping me up to date on his great label. Here's another news item for you all to check out.
Panic Records signs Bostons' Lions Lions.

www.myspace.com/lionslions

Breaking out of the Boston scene, Lions Lions have grown more in their first year of existence than most bands do in their entire careers. Since forming in 2008, Lions Lions have kept themselves busy with playing any and every show that comes their way. In just one year, the band has played well over 100 shows in support of their 2008 debut EP "Direction", every audience giving them incredible response and support.

Although Lions Lions are a new band, the members are veterans of the local music community. Growing up in a scene that has fostered their growth, the members of Lions Lions have spent time in other notable Boston bands such as Vanna, Therefore I Am and A Loss For Words.

Lions Lions are not about being some sort of super band, they are a band that takes what they've already created and expand on it. Each member draws influence from the musically diverse background that Boston is and melds it into a sound that appeals to fans of many genres of music.

Having accomplished so much in such a short amount of time, Lions Lions are ready to take on the next step and have signed with Panic Records to release their debut LP.

Entitled "From What We Believe", Lions Lions will be entering Webster Lake Studios in MA (Four Year Strong, Energy, Therefore I Am) with Chris Curran to lay down 10 new tracks that will be produced by Dan O'Conner and Alan Day (Four Year Strong).

The results should be nothing short of incredible considering the hands on the project and the band backing it up, Lions Lions.
Good stuff.

Ebay Wrap Up: March 2009 Edition
  -- Saturday, April 04, 2009

Is it just me, or has Ebay been extremely slow on the shirt sales? I would assume the tough economic times would provide an environment for more sellers to sell more items. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, people are ducking their heads and stocking away all their gear. Strange, right? A few gems and interesting items were sold. Lets check them out.

But that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, people are ducking their heads and stocking away all their gear. Strange, right? A few gems and interesting items were sold. Lets check them out.

Mental Crew Camo - $59

This one was on Ebay before. It caused a stir then and caused a stir now. This time around, the bidder flaked, and it was put back up. I expected it to end for more than $59 considering there are less than 18 out there. But what do I know?

Chain Of Strength - True Till Death Used bootleg - $20

This is a used bootleg, but it still sold for $20 bucks, plus shipping from Italy. That just proves how awesome a design this is. Classic, no doubt.

Mental - Be True To Your School Long Sleeve - $7.01

I love this long sleeve. It has chill graphics and isn't in your face. Just a real old school look. And the bleach stains ADD to it's quality feel. I did my part and bid on it, but obviously I didn't bid enough. I keep looking for those cheap deals, trying to keep my money close to home, really.

Mental - One Off B9 Design - $20.50

Same seller, similarly awesome tee. This was a one off. The seller happened to have an in at B9 and helped print up a few weirdo shirts. This was one of them. Something about this design just catches me. It really works. Others must have felt the same because they worked it up over $20.

Gorilla Biscuits - Old Rev Design - $71.00

Nuff said on this shirt. So amazing.

Ten Yard Fight - Hood - $21.50

Now, I've never seen this sweatshirt before. Not sure how or where it came from. It has quality colors and a classic look. Just top notch looking. Not sure how I've never come across one before. Looks great.

Bane - Fall Tour Misprint - $0.00 (no bidders)

Here's one that snuck under the wire. It appears to be a Fall Tour shirt from WAAAY back to 1999. And that's what it is. But it's more. This is actually one of the misprint shirts that somehow got produced. The regular shirt has two screens on the back.

There are probably less than 2 dozen with one screen on the back making this one of the most rare Bane shirts ever produced. Hopefully the seller decides to relist and someone scores a great tee.

American Straight Edge - Judge Hammers - $1.20

And last, I can't decide if this shirt is the coolest thing ever, or the worst thing ever. I just can't decide. Judge Hammers = Cool. US Straight Edge = Cool. But the combo and screen sizes. I just can't decide. What do you think?

So that was March. Hopefully April has more gems and oddities. We'll see. Peace.

React Records Update!
  -- Monday, March 16, 2009

Aram coming through with some more info.
I just want to remind everyone that orders for the Gone But Not Forgotten demo and Effort Fanzine #2 are up now.

We only have about 100 of each left so make sure to stop by our myspace and get your order in! Beyond the demo or zine, we have some new shirt designs and are offering 3 great package deals:

PACKAGE #1: GBNF demo and GBNF shirt

PACKAGE #2: Effort fanzine and a REACT! shirt of your choice

PACKAGE #3: GBNF demo and shirt, Effort fanzine, and a REACT! shirt of your choice

If you aren't familiar with GBNF or Effort Fanzine then flex your head on this:

GBNF: In 2008 long time friends Face (Get the Most), Paul DC (Sinking Ships), and Jamie King (giant dude) decided to start a new bad that focused on writing fast HARDcore in the vein of Floorpunch, No For An Answer, and Brotherhood. Rounding out the line-up with Kyle (Get the Most) and Garret (The Answer, Vanguard) GBNF entered the studio and recorded the 8 song, "Seattle Crew" demo. The demo is available for free on-line but due to the serious awesomeness of it we’ve decided to do a one time only TAPE pressing of it. Both the demo art and the song UNFORGIVEN have been posted on our myspace so check it out.

If you have yet to hear GBNF then check them out http://www.myspace.com/gonebutnotforgottenhc.

EFFORT FANZINE: Taking cues from classics like Boiling Point and Schism, as well as current mainstays like Start Today, long time friends Kalle (Go for Broke, Send in the Clones fanzine) and Ulf (Balance, Go for Broke, Changes fanzine) teamed up to create Effort fanzine. Setting the bar high in regards to both content and aesthetics, Effort delivers thoughtful and insightful documentation of our scene and our ideas. A lot of people missed out on the first issue due to the high cost of postage from Europe so I’m excited to announce that REACT! has partnered up with Effort to release issue #2 here in North America. Issue #2 is 76 pages and includes interviews with Mindset, Anthony Pappalardo, The First Step, and Justice as well as articles, reviews, opinions, and tons of great shots.

Remember the Anthrax Club? ...
  -- Thursday, January 15, 2009

Chris Daily has teamed up with the Sheridan brothers to bring us a new book about the famous Anthrax Club of Connecticut. It's ramping up in 2009 and headed to a bookshelf near you before you know it.

Remember the Anthrax Club?

Some of you may remember me and some of you will have no clue. My name is Chris Daily, and I used to do a few zines (Skate Confusion and Smorgasbord) back in the 80's, as well as a record label. The first release was a comp 7" recorded with Jeff R in the Anthrax on 01/24/1988.

The Anthrax Club was a place that we all spent a lot of time at. A club that brought live music into our lives at a crucial point in our adolescence. The bands that played there, the photos we all have seen, the flyers and the genius booking schedules…amazing.

For years I have thought about doing a book that would document the history and the excitement we all felt. 2009 brings that desire to a head. In talking with the owners, Shaun and Brian Sheridan, we agreed; a book is great idea. They are on board and pulling things out of storage. You have no idea how excited I am.

Without wasting any more of your time, I'd like to direct you to a web page announcing the project. I have spoken to a few of the old regulars but I want to document every one's experience. Please take a look at the page, I am searching for anything you may have or remember that will make the story of the Anthrax Club more complete.

www.anthraxclubbook.com

I hope to hear from you soon.

-C.Daily
As for me, I don't remember. I was age 6 in 1985. I was down with matchbox cars and Michael Jackson's Thriller album. But if you were there, hit up Daily as he's a good dude with a great idea.

December 2008: An Ebay Wrap Up ...
  -- Sunday, January 11, 2009

2008 had highs and lows, as far as ebay and hardcore is concerned. We saw Wishingwell shirts sell for an ungodly amount. We also saw Youth Of Today shirts sell for pennies on the dollar. People were sleeping and people were bum rushing the queue. All in all, it barely made any sense to me. But 2008 is over and done with, and here's the last wrap up for '08. There's a couple of gems in here. Check it.

PX acetate screen "thing" - $26

Al made up some shirts in his basement and 15 years later, made $26 on the negative films, or something like that. Not bad at all, Al!

Original NFAA shirt, beat - $10.50

Wow, this one was beat. Great design, but beat. Too bad.

Bootleg YOT Youth Crew 88 tee - $8.50

Quality looking bootleg, if that's your bag. Good price for a white tee regardless of what's printed on it.

American Nightmare Hood (featured last month, unsold) - $45.00

This one was the re-list from last month's wrap up. Last time, it didn't meet the reserve (it ended at $33). This time it hit $45. I think I deserve a cut, right! ;)

Bootleg Schism Logo tee - $46.00

I've always wanted an original Schism logo tee. I've never see one though. Hell, I've barely ever seen boots. I bid on this a few times, but once it started peaking over $40, I tossed in the towel. No thanks, dudes. If anyone has a legit Schism logo tee, hook it up!

Bootleg Chain Of Strength True Til Death - $41.00

Another boot. Another outrageous price.

H2O water drop ringer (OLD) - $6.50

Old H2O tee. Guess kids aren't into XL ringers. Weird.

Original Smorgasbord Records 10th Anniversary tee - $38.99

Old Smorgasbord records tee. Fun fact. There is a rumor that kids would buy the 10th anniversary tee shirts (From 97, I think), then cut the sleeves off. They would then sew a sleeve from a color matched shirt back on, giving them an '87 styled tee. What about that??

Original Burn Shall Be Judged tee - $63.51

Great tee. Great tee. No doubt about it. It looks a little beat, but well worth the amount spent. I hope the new owner wears it with pride.

Have Heart Crew Neck - $41.00

This band has chill merch. And for some reason, it almost always resells for ridiculous amounts of money. Take this crewneck. It's less than a year old. In fact, they may still sell them on their tour. Wowza.

Right Brigade Boiling Point rip tee - $17.39

I think this one must have slid under the wire. Weird.

Bold Speak Out tee - $32.00

Here's a quality tee. Sharp logo, great look, no weird blurry Matt picture either.

Original American Nightmare Demo - $58.00

This makes me want to sell my american nightmare demo. YIKES!

Original (??) Sick Of It All Tour 89 tee - $7.50

The seller claimed this tee was original. I am doubting that. It's easily 19 years old. No way that shirt would have held up that well. No way. Great shirt though.

Bold Speak Out tee - $38.03

Hey look, another Bold Speak Out tee. This one clocks in for 6 more dollars than the last one. Not too shabby.

Bane Zip Logo hood - $8.41

I've got a bit of a Bane buying habit. That's not too bad when a hooded sweatshirt sells for less than $10. If anyone has one that I don't have, look me up. I want yours.

Ten Yard Fight first (or early) tee - $20.50

Plain and simple. It says what needs saying and leaves crappy graphics blowing in the wind. This shirt is probably 11-12 years old. Looks great.

Original Uniform Choice WW shirt - $0.99

This lasted for about 2 days on ebay. MAYBE. Probably less. Someone must have offered a good BIN price because the seller yanked it down. Anyone know how much it went for?

Andrew Thomas SXE CO tee - $0.50

No bids. Funny story: I became straight edge in early 1998. Prior to that, I didn't want to purchase any tees that screamed STRAIGHT EDGE. During March of 1998, I drove to Detroit Fest (held in Wayne, Michigan, oddly enough) with 2 great friends. It was at this event that I decided it would be ok to purchase straight edge gear. Andrew Thomas CO had a merch table set up (probably wedged between a vegan cookie table and a zine table) and I grabbed one of their shirts. Actually, they had a portable clothing rack with shirts on hangers. High class! The first sxe shirt I purchased is the one pictured above. Oddly, that seller could have purchased it from me a few years ago and decided to resell it now. Who knows? Second fun fact: People referred to this shirt as my "Hampton Beach Straight Edge Shirt." LOL!

Floorpunch long sleeve - $85.00

This is a fine way to wrap up December. This one ended on the last day and sort of chafed my ass. The seller purchased this shirt straight from Bill Punch during a phase where Bill sold all his remaining FP tees. Now I know the seller didn't pay Bill Punch even half that much for that tee. I actually tried to get it from Bill when he was selling it originally but he already promised it to this other kid. And crap, this kid sells it on ebay a few months later, likely unworn. Damn it.

So there you have it. That's December 2008. Some steals, some deals, some general wackiness. Until next month ...

Hailing from the same Syracuse, NY, hometown of genre standard bearers, friends, and supporters Earth Crisis, Another Victim's lyrics attacked drug and animal abuse, pornography, and racism as savagely as their brutal hardcore/metal-oriented music attacked listeners.

It also features two unreleased tracks meant to appear on the "Apocalypse Now" record as well as a complete live set from there home town of Syracuse, NY.

The economy is in a downward spiral, but that hasn't stopped any outrageous spending on ebay. November was a BIG month in certain sales. Some things went huge while others flew under the wire. Check it. Oh and don't mind those early December Ebay auctions ...

Wide Awake Tee with Miller tag - $102.50

To be perfectly honest, I've never been the biggest Wide Awake fan. I dig Wide Awake, but of all the schism releases, this one is my least favorite. HOWEVER, the wide awake schism tees are ILL! No doubt. This one and the long sleeve are near perfect. I forgot to bid on this one. D'oh.

Unbroken Test Press lot

This lot contained 5 test presses. 2 LPs and 3 EPs. If you do the math, that's $240 per test press. Realistically, that's a steal. If you chopped this auction into 5 auctions, I bet the return would have been closer to $2k. C'est La Vie!

Stop and Think - Long Sleeve - $43.56

I was hoping this was going to end cheap. That would help usher in cheaper prices for Stop And Think gear. It didn't happen like I wanted it to. Anyone got a SNT tank top for me? Hook it up.

American Nightmare Hood - $33 (reserve not met)

American Nightmare Hood - $43

Here we have almost the same exact hood for the same exact price. One minor difference, I think. The one that didn't sell is the "second press" of the hood. This one has a friggin tiny hood. No idea why, but it's freaking tiny. The second one pictured appears to be the "first pressing" with a regular, human sized hood. Pretty good price for the hood at this point.

Uniform Choice - Straight and Alert 4 Sided WW - $159

All closets should contain at least ONE wishing well shirt. This would have been a great addition to my closet. It wasn't meant to be though.

Sick Of It All - Tour 89 - $10 (seller ended it early)

Another great, old gem. I wasn't sure on the condition of this particular tee. It either has a weird yellow/gross stain all over the back or the picture was taken in the worst lighting ever. Didn't matter, the seller pulled the auction relatively fast.

Step Forward Records - Drug Free Youth Tank Top - $72

I've never seen this tee in a tank version. I was pretty impressed when this hit ebay. I'm not sure how it ended for so much money though. Are tanks cool again? In December?? Not for me. Great design. Hopefully the winner doesn't think this tank top was for the Boston Straight Edge band Step Forward. Fingers crossed.

Gorilla Biscuits - Hold Your Ground w/ Purple ink Tee - $69

This tee came in two different colors. It's often called the demo tee, or the hold your ground tee. One version has light blue ink, the other has purple. This would be the purple version. I like it. Good looking tee.

B9 Edge Day Tee - $0.88 (no bidders)

Maybe people forgot what edge day is or perhaps what happened on 10/17? I don't know. Someone dropped the ball on a cool shirt from 8 years ago, though.

Bold - Summer Tour 89 Tee - $75.50

Great tee. I got mine from Dan Christie back in the day. I then traded it away. Stupid move, of course. I was hoping to pick up this one for cheap, but fat chance of that happening. Oh well.

In My Eyes - Rev Hood - $9.99

The first time this was listed, no one bid on it. WACK.

Mental - Purple EU Tour 04 - $20.50

This shirt came in a few colors. White with purple ink, white with orange ink, orange with white ink and purple with white ink. The purple with white ink is a favorite of mine. Anyone got one for trade?

X-Rated Swatch - $212.50

X-Rated Swatch Lot - $82.51

Do you see the difference here folks? It's all about "how you list your item." If you're smart and do your homework, you have the potential to double your profits. Since you'd probably want a new strap for the first watch anyway, the mis-listed lot was basically the same watch plus a bonus. Either way, someone is going to have a crucial holiday season.

So there you have it. Save up that holiday loot because post Christmas ebay is going to get crazy. You can count on that.

It's Time To React! MINDSET stylee ...
  -- Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Reminder from Aram, folks. Don't sleep on these pre-orders, or you'll be kicking yourself (much like how I still kick myself for not picking up those HOA am87s. D'oh!)

We have approved the test presses and completed art so I'm happy to announce that pre-orders for the new Mindset EP, "R E A L P O W E R" will be starting on Monday November 24th. Like all REACT! releases this will be a one-time-only pressing and this time we'll be doing 1000 copies (200 on red, 300 on white, and 500 on black) and once they're gone, they're gone so stay on point! Each record will come with a free digital download and new Mindset and REACT! merch designs will also be available for order.

Lyrically this unbelievable four song EP focuses on topics of self-motivation, compassion, and social change, and encourages self-empowerment as a means to create change. Musically Mindset draw from classic bands like Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, and Warzone while still managing to have a personality and style all of their own. The cover art, which was designed by Evan Mindset in collaboration with the McMahon family (Tracy, Tim, Trevor, and Taryn), as well as two new songs BE THE SPARK and WORDS have been posted on the REACT! page so please check them out and be ready for Monday November 24th!!!

If you haven't heard Mindset yet please check the new songs posted on both the REACT! and Mindset myspace pages:

www.myspace.com/itstimetoreact

www.myspace.com/mindsetsxe
There you have it folks. Quit sleeping. Order this record now. According to Aram, they are going faster than the Right Idea lp. And that one went damn fast.

Nazi Punks ... FUCK OFF!
  -- Thursday, November 13, 2008

Note: Normally, I reserve the front page for Facts, Figures and Stats. Today, I break the mold and go for an editorial. You'll see, however, that this one has value and merit. Listen up and keep the scene positive.
It was brought to my attention that in the last few weeks and months, a new arm of National Socialism (aka NAZI fucks) has latched onto Straight Edge as one of their key ideologies. There has been a big push in Russia and Germany along this front. In my mind, that is completely fucked. Their concept of "Poison Free" goes AGAINST the non-violent and tolerant ideals of Straight Edge.

Straight Edge is very simple -- no booze, no drugs. It's about keeping a clear mind. End of story. Somewhere along the line, someone thought to tack on a "no promiscuous sex" addendum. Sure, if that's your thing, go for it, but that has nothing to do with straight edge. Later, someone tacked on vegetarianism and healthy living. I fully support that (I've been vegan since 1997) but that is not what straight edge is. And straight edge HAS NEVER and WILL NEVER be about racism, fascism, intolerance or hate.

Ten Yard Fight summed it up nicely, in a tongue in cheek sense, in their song "Pit Of Equality."
We don't care if you're black or white.
We're all friends in the pit tonight.
I'll pick you up if you fall on me.
We'll mosh in the pit of equality.

Straight Edge brothers in the pit together.
Singing Straight Edge anthems together.
We're all friends if you're not high
No one will go home with a black eye.

In the pit we're all the same
Because hardcore's just like a big football game.
Ten Yard Fight is here to stay
We won't tolerate any foul play

Straight Edge brothers in the pit together.
Singing Straight Edge anthems together.
We're all friends if you're not high
No one will go home with a black eye.
And that's the truth. You can be black, purple, yellow, amish, jewish, tall, fat, short, awkward, funny, stupid, ... The color of your skin or your religious preferences do not factor into straight edge.

If you wish to learn more about what these people are pushing, check this
NSFW article. It's in German, and is littered with fourteens, eighty-eights and pro-Nazi comments. I strongly suggest you DO NOT view this at work. You may not be able to read the writing, but there are a few videos of "rallies" and "parades" that are enough to make my blood boil.

Here's where you can contribute. If you are against the Nazi movement, speak out. Make your voice heard. Don't allow these creeps to ruin a positive ideal, especially in the public's eye. Stand up and make a difference. It's OUR scene.

Last Month On Ebay: Shirts and More Shirts ...
  -- Monday, November 03, 2008

October was a busy month on ebay. Maybe dudes were unloading stuff pre Edge Day in order to clean up on the Straight Edge frenzy. I know I saw plenty of dope shirts at the Edge Day show. Or maybe it's the economic downturn and people needed the loot more than the shirt on their back. Whatever it was, October had some wacky sales. Check it.

Straight Ahead L&F - $20.50

October was a busy month on ebay. Maybe dudes were unloading stuff pre Edge Day in order to clean up on the Straight Edge frenzy. I know I saw plenty of dope shirts at the Edge Day show. Or maybe it's the economic downturn and people needed the loot more than the shirt on their back. Whatever it was, October had some wacky sales. Check it.

Straight Ahead L&F - $20.50

This one comes straight out of Lost And Found records. A bootleg, of course, but a sort of sharp looking one.

Bane Mr Sparkle - $15.51

Can you do any less? Mr. Sparkle plus Bane. Chalk this up to Mr. Nick Branigan and Pete Chilton. Great shirt. Sold around the Hell Fest 2000 shows. Pretty limited.

Gorilla Biscuits Last Show/Pizza Tee - $72.98

Last show tshirt. Of course, GB would reunite and play more shows, but at the time, this tee was screened for the last show. It resembles the lid to a pizza box. I've never really seen one sell for this much before. Then again, I haven't seen one on ebay in quite some time.

Outspoken Survival Tee - $172.16

Here's a strange auction. Cool shirt that two bidders got in a crazy bidding war over. Zany.

Right Brigade First Tee - $0.01 ($25 shipped)

No bids after 6 days so I emailed the seller. Offered $25 shipped which was immediately excepted. Later, I found out the seller was someone I had met a few years back. Cool dude. Great record label...

Slugfest Calvin & Hobbes tee - $27.68

Chill tee. Apparently dudes aren't psyched on ash grey XLs? I don't know.

Down To Nothing Hanging crewneck sweatshirt - $46.00

This design is cool. It says nothing about Down To Nothing or Hardcore or Straight Edge. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it came from AJ Wright. Great design for a crewneck. Very chill.

All Systems Go Comp Test Press - $61.05

Cover songs. Lots of cool bands. Lots of weird bands. An interesting mix: Earthmover, Until Today, Ensign, Reinforce, Reach the Sky, the Letterbombs, Extinction, Close Call, Eyelid, Supersleuth, Roundhouse, Ten Yard Fight, Standard Issue, Death Threat, Bane, and Bloodpact. Add the fact that it is a test press, and you have ebay gold.

Burn Tee - $61

Your guess is as good as mine. This appears to be an older Rev tee that has shrunk something considerable. Cool tee, but $61? I just don't know about that.

Ten Yard Fight Tee + CD - $31

Great tee. All of these have aged pretty roughly over the years. Could be the bullet proof thick ink jobs. I'm not sure, but most seem to have considerable cracking. The seller even throws in The Only Way CD. Good buy.

New Age Records End Racism Tee - $6.50

A chill tee. New Age Records created this series of tees with slogans on them. This was one of them. There's another that talks about ending gangs, and maybe a few about sxe and vegetarianism. Pretty cool concept.

Veganism Gatorade Rip Tee - $12.50

I didn't even know people were still vegan ... I kid. I'm vegan. Cool tee, a little weird. Looks like it'd be the perfect shirt to wear to Detroit Fest in 1996. GO (VEGAN)!

In My Eyes Thumbprint - $1

Did this slip under the radar or are people against XL shirts? I'm guessing a little of both. It worked out for me. I think it came to $4.75 shipped. Dope.

Wide Awake "Schism" tee (boot) - $16.50

Ugh, don't get me started on this tee or this seller. Please.

It's Ok Not To Use Drugs PPP re-print - $3.75

Cool reprint from Justin Thunder Lizard. Cheap wearable scoop. I'll take it.

Smorgasborg Records SXE Tee (tailored from XL to M) - $16.50

Smorgasborg is the new Smorgasbord apparently. So is super tailoring tees. Yuck. Someone either got a great deal (due to a title miss-spelling) or a terrible deal due to the tailoring. We'll have to ask the winner once it arrives, I suppose.

So there you have it. Some highs, some lows, some cheap wins, some expensive wins. Keep em coming, I say. Peace.

New Feature: A Day in The Life with Charles Get Outta Town Records ...
  -- Monday, October 20, 2008

Here's a new feature. Every now and then, I'm going to bring you a Day in the Life with some of your favorite people in the hardcore scene. You may think they live that rock star lifestyle -- partying all night, hanging with dimes, getting ill mid 80s EPs for cheap. If you know that person, introduce him to me, I could use some old tees. In reality, these guys are like you me. They bust their ass to make ends meet and pay the bills. AND somehow, they still manage to promote the scene and better their local community. For starters, I give you Charles Chaussinand. Everything you read after this was written by him. See how he rolls.

Get Outta Town Records is a single man operation run out of my apartment in Orlando, Fl. I have been running the label for about three years and in that time done 16 releases. The label, coupled with my mastering studio, is the only jobs I have on a day to day basis. With the recent decline in people buying music, it gets tougher and tougher to run the label as a self sustaining business, but I guess I will just keep doing that until it no longer can work. I really take little to no money out of the label for living expenses and just try and keep things rolling to get cool releases out.

Each day, I get up around 8:00AM and begin by checking my emails and replying to everyone that is on a different time zone than I am. I get enough emails in a day to make answering them nearly a full time job in itself. I try and get the bulk of my responding and contacting done in the morning to free up the rest of the day for promotion or whatever the day needs. Today, I had to work on artwork for an upcoming Kid Dynamite Tribute release I am doing with Black Numbers Records. I really have no digital graphics skill, but I am forced to handle everything I can in doing a small label, so I push my skill to its limits. I usually do the mastering on my releases, so I usually send out files that need approval by the bands in the morning as well.

Once the emails are cleared out, I start seeing what I need to do either for an upcoming release or for a form of promotion. I utilize a lot of free promotion on message boards and submit-able online news sites where I can. Most of the print ads I design myself, so sometimes this time in the day is dedicated to working on that. Usually, a written out promotional update is what I work on and make sure it gets posted pretty much everywhere I can think to put it. Every few that I post, I go back through and bump the previous ones to make sure people get to see them. Luckily, there are sites like HOWSYOUREDGE and PASTEPUNK that people will post your news up because they are just kind enough to want to help. I also try and think of cool stuff I can promote or push through my distributor, RevHQ. They are the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. They really go out of their way to help smaller labels and to make sure you're happy with what is going on. I can be certain that they have a lot of larger labels then Get Outta Town Records that send them more emails then I do, but they always get back to anything I write them almost immediately and are always interested in doing fun pushes on records.

If I haven't got promotion to do, I am usually working on something for a new release. I recently had to track down all of the members I could from Violent Children so that I could ask them about a re-issue that I had the idea of doing. Not an easy task to find some of these guys. Anytime I get a release idea, I write it down in my smartphone and try and think of the feasibility of what my idea is. I like making the releases a little different. I like to include something extra in the vinyl releases, like the Kill Your Idols box set that includes five 7"s, a booklet, 6.5" x 6.5" two color screened poster, sticker, pin and patch, or the insert that is a full color poster for Attitude.

There is a good amount of thought that goes into that stuff, as well as personal care. I designed the poster for the Attitude LP's, though I have my aforementioned limited graphics skill, and I screen printed the posters, patches, stickers and put the whole box together for the Kill Your Idols release. With CDs it is more difficult because of the limited space and the releases being shrink-wrapped when they get to me. I try to do some cool artwork with them or maybe include some cool tracks or something. I can certainly say that I don't put out any records that I don't like. Many labels will go on band hype or doing something they think will really sell just because it will really sell, but I only work with bands that put out records that I would buy. While I run a business, I always thought that was what defined hardcore were people doing things because they wanted to and not because of "members of" or whatever else. Seems to sometimes be going the opposite way and great bands get overlooked while others get recognition for little effort.

By this time in the day, my roommate is usually getting off of work and, lately, we've been playing racquetball a bunch. Fun game if you haven't played. When we get back from that, I check my emails again and answer as many as I have. I make myself dinner, watch a few episodes of MacGyver off of my DVD collections, and then go to bed with my cats to get up the next day and do it again. Some may say I have a glamorous life, even, the most glamorous. I say to this, yes, I do.

Thanks for reading about what I do with my label and if you have any questions on how to start a label on your own, please get in touch with me. Too few kids are putting out records these days. Buy music from bands and labels and support your local scene. Thank you for your support.

Noteworthy: The Week Of October 13th ...
  -- Tuesday, October 14, 2008

First and foremost. National Edge Day is Friday. This'll be the 9th anniversary of Edge Day. Obv, time fucking flies!

National Edge Day (Observed) will be celebrated this Saturday. Go to Haverhill Mass and hit up Anchors Up. I suggest everyone make an attempt to get to this show early. The first two bands are going to blow some minds. Free Spirit! No Tolerance! Word.

Second. When friends of mine put together a creative outlet, you fully know I am going to support and push their venture as hard as I can. In the upcoming months, you'll see more and more of this on the front page: promotion for new bands, or top notch record labels (get ready for a sweet Get Outta Town Records feature), along with every other outlet you can imagine.

This week, HYE is highlighting Trumbull Magazine. Owen and Sam are name brand dudes with a vast collective history of awesome. They are pulling on their fanzine routes and creating an upper echelon magazine for the masses. But don't think they've forgotten their roots. This magazine will feature interviews with scene favorites (what did we learn??), skins, sneakers, models plus so much more.

Check out the interview I managed to squeeze out of their busy schedules. Plus, keep checking their site for news and updates.

That's all for now. Peace.

This Week On Ebay: Shirts and Show Memorabilia
  -- Thursday, October 09, 2008

I haven't done a cool ebay wrap up in a bit so lets get back to it. I recall many people were fans of this segment, but I've been busy. I've actually been surfing ebay a lot less lately. Weird.

But lets get back into the swing of things. Here are a few items you may have missed or didn't have the scratch to purchase.

Youth Of Today - Break Down The Walls on blue vinyl - $702

This is a gem. You've all heard the story about how all those Wishingwell records were stolen out of their van. And some that actually made it to stores were melted on porches. OUCH. So this guy is pretty damn limited at this point. If you own both red and blue, you're either a true fan, or someone with DEEP pockets.

Click here for more details ...

Cold World - Sound And Fury 08 - $22.50

This one sold for WAY less than I was expecting. I suppose it's only a few months old but it has a ton of things going for it. A) white tees rule! B) white tees with purple ink RULE. C) Big screens, lots of chill mix tapes and sleeve print. D) It's a friggin COLD WORLD tee folks! Cold World merch is usually solid gold as far as ebay goes. No idea. I think it's chill. Maybe kids are against size Large white tees. That's ok. More for me.

In My Eyes - Last Show / Edge Day tee - $20.50

This shirt is cool. I own this particular colorway. Anyone got a maroon and white one for me? There should be a ton of these tees floating around somewhere. I recall seeing BOXES and BOXES of these arrive at the show. More than expected, I think. Maybe they were all bought by Merrimack Valley heads, who knows?

In My Eyes Record Release Pass - $2

This is a cool little souvenir. I don't know, I like it. Then again, I'm a Bane and In My Eyes nerd. But hey, it was only $4 shipped, and it reminds me of some awesome times that were had that night. I still need to get my screened poster framed. Shit. I have to remember to do that.

Youth Of Today - Youth Crew 88 tee - $94.45

I recall buying one of these from Pat a bunch of years ago. It's a dope shirt, no doubt. I then traded mine plus some other stuff for a Floorpunch on gold. SCORE! Besides the wishingwell 4 sided tee, this is probably my favorite YOT shirt. I mean, look at that back image. Rad.

Release - The Pain Inside tee - $122.51

Some of you may not be familiar with Release. That's a shame. Release was dope. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the bands these dudes went on to form. I'm sure everyone has heard of Floorpunch and 108 ... If you haven't, how did you even find this website?? This shirt is pretty rad. White tee, green ink. Classic combo. I've seen shirts in better quality but finding a mint Release shirt is like finding a Honus Wagner card.

X-rated Swatch & Harley Watch lot - $132.50

I watched this auction VERY closely. I was hoping to scoop it for cheap. The seller listed it as an "x-rate" watch. Typing "x-rated" into ebay found no matches. I was hoping to scoop for cheap. Especially consider that 3 of the 4 prongs on one end of the watch had snapped off. If it had stayed cheap, I would have scooped and had the parts for an auto conversion. But it jumped in the end. Someone else must have been smart when searching. I heard the new owner may be a member of the band Energy ... Cool.

And finally.

How's Your Edge? - West Coast Fall 2006 - $1

OOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFF. $1? Seriously, $1? Oh man. That sort of pains me. No big deal, I guess. When I sold them on the west coast, kids loved them. I had some lines to deal with and sold a bunch. I put a lot of effort into them. Hell, they are even on unbleached cotton American Apparel tees! Oh well, someone got themselves a deal.

That's all for this week. We saw highs and lows, scoops and pains. That's ebay, I guess. Peace.

A few Noteworthy Items ...
  -- Friday, October 03, 2008

First, a new interview has been added that collaborates with thecollectionspace.com. You need to read up on xChipxSem's ridiculous tshirt collection. Do yourself a favor and go do that now.

Second, The First Step broke up. Boooooo. BUT, after breaking up, they realized they still had some ill merch leftover. Weird sizes, weird selection, but some gems. You should go pick some up before it's gone forever.

Two shows tonight. Lots of choices. If you are in NYC/Brooklyn, got hit up the Radio Silence release / Mind Eraser gigger. If you are in Haverhill MA, come to Anchors Up and peep This Is Hell. I'll be in Haverhill. Word.

And finally, I have a few LPs up on ebay, you should consider buying them ... ooohhh, spammmmy.

Peace!

Radio Silence
  -- Monday, September 15, 2008

Do you remember how excited you were when rumors started leaking about Blush's American Hardcore book? I know I was pretty amped. But then I got it, and realized it was written by this farty old man who had no friggin clue what was going on in the scene (or world, for that matter) anymore. It was page after page of drivel, really. Some cool facts but not what I had dreamt it was going to be.

Radio Silence is the antithesis of that book. Instead of page after page chock full of bummer stories about hardcore dying in 84, Radio Silence features over 500 pages of rich pictures that will capture your imagination. It'll probably also capture a piece of your bank account as you scour ebay for that elusive object from your past.

Also of noteworthy importance, AP isn't a farty old dude. Not even a little. In fact, he still attends shows, puts out records and owes me an In My Eyes shirt or two (heheheh). He also realizes that hardcore is alive and kicking. Radio Silence doesn't attempt to eulogize hardcore, but it does do a fair job of cataloging some awesome moments in time.

Head over to amazon and pick yours up today! They've already started shipping so don't delay. Also, keep tabs on their website as they've been announcing release parties and gallery openings. It's the real deal, yo!

Introducing - The Collection Space
  -- Thursday, September 11, 2008

Over the years, How's Your Edge? has grown and shifted focus a few times. We've always been about shirts and trading, but some of you may recall a certain notorious list. Some things have changed and those changes reflect my life and the needs of the scene. Over the last few years, I've seen a surge in swap lists and a larger desire to see collection based content.

Obviously, swap is king, but people LOVE looking at collections! At this point, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome a new friend to the family, thecollectionspace.com. Their purpose is to host and display all your favorite collections -- from records to shirts to kidrobot toys to ... you name it! And the beautiful part? I don't have to do all the leg work. Previously, dudes would email me their pics, and I would have to upload and tag them all. Thanks to the cspace, you can do all that yourself! Instead of me misnaming shirts, you can feel free to go buck wild on your descriptions. They also have a great tagging and search feature in case you forgot where you saw that Release Windbreaker!

So starting today and here on out, I will be forwarding all collection requests over to thecollectionspace.com. But that doesn't mean your affiliation with How's Your Edge? has to stop there. Hell no. Make sure to tag any of your images with the key phrase "How's Your Edge?" And then BOOM, check it!.

To coincide with this introduction, I'm also starting a new, regular feature. Each week, I plan on interviewing a How's Your Edge? collection contributor. Same run down as most of my interviews, even if you aren't edge (psssshhhhhh)! All you have to do to be considered is add the tag "How's Your Edge?" to your pictures. I'll then pick a user and interview from there.

In fact, head over to the interviews section RIGHT NOW to see the first installment! After you finish reading that, head over to thecollectionspace.com and start uploading your own collections! While you are there, check out all of my collections.

PS. You'll notice a lot of friendly faces behind the scenes at the cspace. Namely, Mr. Chris Casali. You may all remember him as an original How's Your Edge? co-founder. You may also recognize a fellow Murphy name. That'd be my wife. And even if I didn't love these individuals to death, I would still send all of you over there because their site is killer.

Hardcore "Must" Reads ...
  -- Friday, August 29, 2008

Before REALLY starting my day, I like to catch up on what's going on with my friends and hardcore. Here is my list for daily must reads. Of course, I have a few other gems, but you'll have to find them on your own.

First up is Dobek's blog. This guy is a NBG (name brand geezer). He lived in Poland, then in the UK and now in Japan. Over the years, him and I have traded a bunch of gems. He's got a lot of cool shit to say, and for a point and click kind of guy, his photos always seem to capture moments well. Give him a shot.

Next on the docket is another foreign blog. This one coming from the UK and the record archive of Marcus Andrews. His record collection is astounding and his thoughts on most vinyl usually has me laughing. I have even used his site as a pretty good recommendation guide for music. He doesn't often miss.

Once again, we have another NBD. Larry Ransom. This guy ... this guy. Yeah. Dude is ill. When he's not posting ill videos of Youth Of Today or "The Archive," he's posting ill photos and video of Mike V or Tom Green. Definitely worth bookmarking. It also makes me wish there was a Jersey Mike's in the northeast!

Double Cross Webzine is a daily no brainer. For anyone who loves minutia and well written details about shows and hardcore, this is your site! Tim and Gordo somehow manage to interview everyone worth hearing from. Your mind will be blown reading some of these posts. NYHC to So Cal to even Arizona. Who knew?

To round it out, there is the Livewire Records board. I start the day and end the day on this board. You can usually find at least 4-5 interesting stories or some crazy obscure video or mp3 upload by Ben Alvie. So many gems on this board through out the years. Definitely well worth reading.

There you have it. The "Must Reads." Get digging. Also, feel free to point some other great daily readers my way. I'm always down to read up.

Shoot outs to Jay Bil, Kevin Ma, MorGODo, Klint, Cris-One, Adam, ...

DEA + Get Outta Town Records = Free Music!
  -- Saturday, July 26, 2008

Charles at Get Outta Town Records and DEA have collectively lost their minds. I'm sure of it.
DEA is a no-bullshit hardcore band out of the Sunshine State's capital, Tallahassee, a city filled with drunk frat boys, money-grubbing politicians, and not enough straight edge hardcore. After their much anticipated self-released "Demo 2008", DEA put their heads together and recorded a six song EP of all new material that is sure to catch the ear of all lovers of fast, pose-free hardcore. Teaming up with Florida's Get Outta Town Records, DEA and GOT Records are taking a new approach at promoting their sound by releasing the songs FREE for download! Call them crazy (literally, call them on the phone and call tell them that), but they think it's better to get their message out and just have fun. The download includes the 13-song record "Good Guys" (Original demo plus new EP) and full album artwork. The entire download will be available on the Get Outta Town Records website on July 29. Don't miss it!

HYE Ruins Hardcore ... Again
  -- Friday, June 13, 2008

According to this Myspace bulletin, How's Your Edge? com has ruined hardcore AGAIN. We all realize that HYE ruined hardcore once by hosting the Edge Break List. But now, we've gone and done it again. We've turned a poor grass roots institution into a designer handbag-only event.

Text
Hows my Edge? Not so good since I am not sxe. Hardcore has become about materialism thanks to sites like Hows my Edge. It is pretty cool to look at some of the rare stuff people have but it also definitely stinks of materialism. I remember a time when most kids into hardcore were poor, sxe or not, and merch was cheaper and/or given out for free. But now hardcore is for the rich little bastards that are singing along to lyrics that 80 percent of them cannot relate too. No wonder why many great bands get disillusioned and break up. It is also one of the reasons why Ian Mackaye wants nothing to do with the scene he started. I don't blame him one bit.
I had planned on breaking this paragraph down sentence by sentence. But I won't. It's just too mind boggling of an issue.

For those of you who don't think we've ruined hardcore, thanks for sticking around the last 7 years (fuck, 7 years. That's a long time). Big shout outs to anyone who's been trading on those lists since the old xmulletx days!

The Art Of Reprinting Shirts
  -- Thursday, May 15, 2008

A few days back while hanging with Bane, I noticed they were selling some shirts that had already previously been printed. Then I got to thinking about how I had some shirts at home that struck me as odd when I got them. They were definitely different than the originals I had purchased, but without closely investigating, I could not put my finger on it. That's what I did yesterday. I spent a while taking pictures of shirts, and will point out differences. You'll notice all the shirts are Bane, but this could apply to any band.

Opinion #1: original printings are always more inspired than reprints. Obviously.

Opinion #2: Reprints always have an "off" feeling to them. I'm not sure what it is, but something always feels odd.

Bane 10th Anniversary Shirt (note cupcake on back)

Bane 10th Anniversary reprint Shirt (note ZERO cupcake on back)

Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right)

Not the reprint uses a less yellow/more orange ink, has less sparkle in the gold print and appears slightly muddy.

Bane - Iron Eagle tee

Bane - Iron Eagle tee Reprint

Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right)

I call this the Iron Eagle tee. I'm sure someone else has a different name for it. Who knows. Anyway, you can see the differences. They are very subtle, but they exist. First off, the shirts are completely different brands and qualities. The original is on an American Apparel tee, while the reprint is on a Hanes tee. Nothing new or terrible about that. I'm sure it happens all the time. Printers probably use whatever tees they have available in the specified color given. I'm can't imagine there is a big push for "baby puke green" american apparel tees.

As for the screens, the prints are just slightly different. It could be the amount of ink used per shirt, or they could be different screens. I'm not 100%. But if you view the reprint, you'll notice more well defined black areas. And it appears "less vintage," less pitted and spotted. Again, this could be the ink amount, but I feel it loses a little of that original appeal.

Bane - Crowded Rooms tee

Bane - Crowded Rooms tee Reprint

Side By Side Comparison (reprint on the right)

The crowded rooms tee is the most noticeable and obvious reprint situation. Actually, the reprint shirts came from the Australian tour. I suppose it was probably cheaper to have some shirts printed in Australia then to lug them 2000 plus miles and pay all the fees associated with brining in merch.

However, the reprint does the tee an injustice, I think. While the inks used on the front are bright and vibrant, they seem to detract from the gritty "give blood" splatter logo vision. The ink is also much thicker on the front giving it more of a Nickelodeon "Double Dare" feel then a hardcore tee.

The back side is the major injustice. The image has been shrunk to the point where everyone pictured appears to be a smurfy blur. I'm not saying the original image was crisp and brilliant, but the sense of what was going on is visible in the original image. The reprint -- not so much.

There you have it. I'm sure I missed a few subtleties that a reader or two will notice. Feel free to clue me in. And in conclusion, for bands: just make new designs. Kids love fresh new shirts. I know sometimes it is hard to make a new design during the middle of tour, but that's why you have friends back home or anywhere on the globe. Get them to whip something up, don't dig into the back catalog unless the design is classic.

That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed the pics and discussion.

Big Day On Ebay ...
  -- Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Normally I would leave this kind of post up to bidhardcore.com but this one really struck me as awesome.

First up is the test press for the In My Eyes Nothing To Hide LP. I believe Scott P once offered to off someone for one of these. It's pretty amazing, but that BIN is mind boggling.

Next up is 5 different Uniform Choice LPs. All Screaming For Change, but all different color variations. Getting Wishingwell LPs on color vinyl is pretty damn hard (unless you are talking about the insted lp, that seems to always be around in white vinyl). In this auction, you get 5 different ones. All the real color pressings and a few variation colors. Dope. You should also note that he says " i have atleast 30 uc colors in my collection, and somewhat 3 complete sets of these colors..." Good lord!

Sadly, the owner is selling them to buy a Nirvana EP. I think it is safe to assume that he is high. Those BIN prices pretty much back up my claim (even if the BIN on the UC was $2.5k last night, and is now reduced to $2.2k. Yikes).

Peace.

NGC: Inside Straight Edge
  -- Tuesday, April 08, 2008

Set your Tivo, but don't tell your mom. Get ready for another "documentary" that attempts to portray SXE. Of course, unless you are knifing people, don't expect to get a lot of shout outs in this show. From what I've heard, they mostly focus on the radical minority. I guess that makes sense. It helps sell ad time, right? You wouldn't buy a People magazine that featured a hollywood starlet who was living a normal, young adult life without drama, would you? Probably not. But I'm sure, people would snatch up every copy that featured coked out Lindsay Lohan. It's just how people work. Like watching train wrecks ...

One thing to note about this poster: plenty of New England love. Johnny Limit, Jeff Youth Attack, Dan Gonyea. I don't know the others. I'm sure they are lovely people though.

This Week On Ebay: The Hardcore Life Cycle ...
  -- Monday, February 25, 2008

well daddy don't you know that things go in cycles
The way that Bobby Brown is just ampin like Michael
Consider that the truth. It holds in basically all aspects of life, including hardcore shirt sales on ebay. This week, we'll be reviewing how shirt size, design and current popularity affect final auction prices.

Lets start if off with American Nightmare. Now American Nightmare is HUGE. No doubt. They've always been big. Even when they just had a demo out (fuck, such an amazing demo). Things go in cycles, check this auction that ended this morning (while I was in a meeting, double fuck).

American Nightmare - Flag. Size L

This shirt dates WAY back. Probably 2000 or 2001. That's 7 years ago for those who aren't counting. And somehow, SOMEHOW, this dope shirt ended for $5.50. That's right, $5.50. That's the same price as a Triple Venti Soy Latte at Starbucks. You can see the ridiculousness now. However, it's a size large, and we all know that kids love schmediums or YLs these days. Plus, the image doesn't scream Fall Out Boy / Emo Fan. It probably wouldn't go well with a white belt either.

Plus, the image doesn't scream Fall Out Boy / Emo Fan. It probably wouldn't go well with a white belt either.

American Nightmare - If I Could Draw What My Heart Feels. Size S

Then there is this shirt. I recall this one sitting on the merch table for a bit. Cool drawing, I suppose. Super emo. And a size small. Yeap, $26 final price. And of course, I believe this value is down from previous months when this shirt was selling for $40+. Is the American Nightmare hype over?

Moving on, lets check Cold World.

Cold World - 1917 Pre-Order. Size YL

So here we have an unworn Youth Large. But the color is semi-dreaded white. That should be ok, a lot of Cold World shirts are printed on white blanks (more bands should print on white blanks. Eff a black shirt. I'm not emo, I don't need anymore black shirts). And those other shirts sell reasonably well. But for some reason, this shirt came in at a paltry $5. Yeap, cheaper than that fancy latte. And I bought one a month back for $2.25. What's going on here? This shirt is chill.

Cold World - BAPE. Size S

White shirt, size small and worn. You're probably thinking, ok, this one should clock in pretty low at final auction price. Not so. This one hit $26. Most likely due to the Bathing Ape reference. Of course, this shirt was on MerchNOW for what seemed like years. And yes, someone did cut the tags out of the shirt. SMH.

Ok, so maybe kids are finicky over newer bands. What about a perennial favorite like Ten Yard Fight?

Ten Yard Fight - Back On Track Tour 97. Size XL

This shirt has obviously been around the block. Hell it's over 10 years old and probably has seen a pit or two. It is a size XL but kids aren't afraid of tailoring so you'd think it'd be a hot and heavy seller. Nope. The $1.25 minimum bid wasn't even made. Not one bidder! Sacrilege.

Ten Yard Fight - Blood Will Run Pure. Size M

So the last shirt had no bidders. This shirt appears to be in the same condition and is definitely from the same age, but shockingly, this one sold for $20.50. I guess, kids are still afraid of tailoring, or just wearing clothes that don't show off their man nips.

We'll finish it off with Mental. Mental shirts are always ill in my opinion. Greg Mental, Jay Bil and even MorGODo (just kidding Morgado) produced some ill shirts over the years.

Now this was a pretty dope little design. Take the album cover, play with placement and BAM, chill shirt. I think Greg and Co did a bunch of different colourways for this shirt (grey/blue, black/blue, black/white, ...). This one is definitely chill. But somehow, it only sold for $1.34. You can't even buy a blank t-shirt for that little. That's just stupid.

Mental - Knife Fight Tour. Size S

Here's a cool MorGODo drawing, chill colors and size small. I would estimate this one would sell for over $20. At the very least. Was I right? No. Was I close? Not really. This one clocked in at $4.29, which is the price of a Venti Soy Latte (two shots of espresso, instead of 3). That pretty much hurts my feelings.

So what can I conclude from this array of ebay end auctions? Honestly? Not a hell of a lot. Except that kids are picky petes and wouldn't know a good tshirt if it punched them in the face. I suppose that works in my favor though. Instead of fighting kids for Fastbreak tees, I can just sit back and let them come to me for pennies on the dollar. The real losers here are the sellers and the kids who don't properly appreciate Fastbreak and their merch (shout outs to AJT).

Until next time, PEACE! And quit bidding on those 4 sided Uniform Choice tees.

Aram from React Records was in town for the Verse 5th anniversary show. Along the way, he hooked me up with this white hoodie. Nothing says "youth crew hardcore" like a white hooded sweatshirt. Amazing.

New Feature in The Shirt Database
  -- Friday, January 18, 2008

Click here for your favorite eBay items

I just whipped up a cool little feature for the shirt database. You'll now see an ebay link at the top of the page. When you click on this link, you will be forwarded to an ebay search site of the current band.

Suppose you are looking at all the Floorpunch shirts. Clicking the ebay logo at the top of the page will shoot you over to an immediate search for Floorpunch gear on ebay. Check out the results here. Now, go dig through those shirt pics and see if you have any luck with ebay.

Let me know what you think. If you guys are into this, maybe I'll try and add something similar to the swap pages. Peace!

Offsides to Tour this Winter
  -- Friday, December 21, 2007

I got an email earlier from Offsides (CT's finest). Seems they are leaving on an east coast tour come January. I suggest you all mark these dates in your calendar IN PEN. Eff pencil, these are don't miss dates. If you recall, I reviewed their demo what seems like a million years ago. Read up and refresh yourself. Or just check my poor review stylee. Whatever is fine by me.
Connecticut's OFFSIDES offer female-fronted hardcore in the vein of 7 SECONDS or FLOORPUNCH (and perhaps FAST TIMES). The group recently released a split with RIPSHIT on Spicy Soup Productions - you can check out a couple of songs from the release, and some demo tunes on their MySpace page. A friend of Pastepunk will be on tour with the band in January; here's what the schedule is shaping up as:

React Records Update!
  -- Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Here's what Aram has to say:
REACT RECORDS!

Bio:
A label dedicated to positive hardcore and The Straight Edge.

That's the bottom line but not the whole story: Hardcore has had a huge impact on my life and has introduced me to a worldwide community of like-minded people trying to make a positive change in the world. It's provided me with an outlet of expression, introduced me to life changing ideas like The Straight Edge and Vegetarianism, and has given me the opportunity to do and see some amazing things. I want others to have that same experience so to me React is more than a label, it's my way of supporting bands that I feel not only embody the same value system and energy that first attracted me into this scene but who also encourage self reflection and personal growth as a means to changing the world around us.

Can't just sit back, its time to React!

Here's the pre-order info
Get the Most- Core Values EP and React! shirts and hoodies

Hey everyone, I'm about to start taking orders for the Get the Most- Core Values 7" and React! shirts.

GET THE MOST- CORE VALUES EP
This is the vinyl version of the Get the Most- "Core Values" demo that was released on tape by Work Release/Too Funkee Dawgz in 2005. The record features 4 songs of classic youth crew hardcore in the vein of Instead, Youth of Today, and Chain of Strength and marks the beginning of a band that makes me stage dive and feel more alive every time I'm lucky enough to see them play.

This is a one time only vinyl pressing and is available on three colors:

100 on gold
150 on red
250 on black

If you're not familiar with Get the Most check them out here:

www.myspace.com/getthemosthc

REACT! SHIRTS AND HOODIES
Also available are React shirts and hoodies designed by my man Face of GTM fame. If I could picture my perfect shirt for React this would be it so huge thanks to him for being a dude with vision. Shirts and hoodies are available in S to XL and are available in the store.

REACT! WEBSTORE
The store will be ran via the React myspace page and I will start pre-orders on Monday November 26th

XXX
You better order some shit from him. Great dude, super pos and works his ass off to make a better scene. You owe him.

This Week in Hardcore - Ebay - Mr. Bane Edition
  -- Tuesday, November 13, 2007

This week I am focusing on Bane gear. Why? Because I like Bane. Duh. But there is more to it than that. I've started to notice a trend that I think says a lot about Bane fans/collectors. I'll conclude with that assessment.

This week I am focusing on Bane gear. Why? Because I like Bane. Duh. But there is more to it than that. I've started to notice a trend that I think says a lot about Bane fans/collectors. I'll conclude with that assessment.

To me, those prices aren't all over the board. They aren't random. Here's how I figure. Bane fans love Bane for their music. They are your average kid. They aren't Mr. Hardcore Shirt Collector. If they were that guy, the first shirt would have sold for WAY more than $9.50 (smoking gun design with black lettering). It's limited to a few dozen. And the West Coast 99 tour shirt that is limited to 2 dozen would also have fetched more loot.

The Mr Sparkles shirt price can be attributed more to the logo than the limited supply. Most Bane fans wouldn't realize that shirt was only sold at a few shows, including an early Hellfest. They have no idea that ONE yellow one even exists (I still need that picture Mr. R). I believe the same can be said for the jacket. The limited nature isn't what drove the price up. It was driven up by the cool samurai pocket print. That's my guess.

And the designs with no bids, well, sometimes designs just don't work on the consumer. In this case, Bane fans passed. Of course, I slept and forgot to bid so if you are holding one of those shirts, hook me up.

Bane fans love Bane. They want to rock a zip hoodie. It hardly matters what color it is. These fans are not your obsessive shirt collector. They aren't WishingWell fanatics or individuals who care about bootlegs vs. OG prints. I know a few exceptions exist, but as far as stereotyping goes, I think I hit it square on.

If you disagree, hit me up. We'll discuss. Peace.

A Few Updates From The HYE? Team ...
  -- Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Just a few things.

1. I updated my method for adding shirts to the Shirt Archive. Now when you send shirts to me, it won't take years to up them. That's a good thing.

2. I added some sweet collection pics from Orhun. Check it.

3. I've heard some complaints lately about the submission process on the Trade Board. Believe me, I do this with all of you in mind. Case in point (name hidden to protect the young, innocent hardcore kid):

This list didn't cut the mustard and wasn't added. If there was no submission process, this one would have slipped through. Every time a list is added, the search feature gets slower and slower. Be glad you have me here to separate the wheat from the chaff.

4. I have some free time this week so if you have any suggestions for HYE? hit me up. Peace.

B9 Updates: Send n00dz!
  -- Thursday, October 04, 2007

B9 wants your n00dz, quit sleeping.
We've decided that all those emails about sweet pictures from awesome shows for our website have become a bit cumbersome. Most of those pictures ARE awesome. Most of the shows look insane. But it was just a lot of goddamn work to put those things up.

We decided that it's much easier if you think your pictures are great-we want to cut out the middle man.

If you have pictures of B9 bands you want to see on the site-you can now submit them. There's a spot for your photo credit, the show, the venue and the band. If you go to the main page, the right side has a camera and a pop up screen. We want to see them and we want to give you the credit so people know your pictures rule.

http://www.bridge9.com/index.php

On the right side there is a camera-click it-upload it-put in your information-and it's good to go.

Thanks-

B9
Ok, so maybe not n00dz. But I'm sure Karl wouldn't mind. ;) Hopefully by the time you actually read this, they'll have their PHP/MySQL issues wrapped up.

B9 Issues Recall
  -- Monday, October 01, 2007

Bummer, check it.
Agnostic Front For My Family EP & Murphy's law

Wednesday we received our long awaited Agnostic Front "For My family" 7" EP. They looked awesome. They featured 3 new songs from one of New York's hardcore legends and proved they're still at the top of their game. However, after we went home to check out this vinyl and the songs, we found a horrible mistake.

The pressing plant we frequently use "guarantees" every project is correct screwed up. The A-Side of the record features "For My Family" and "Dead To Me" which are two awesome songs from their Nuclear Blast record "Warriors" which is in stores November 6th. The B-Side exclusive-the one song exclusive to this EP-"Break The Chains" is not there. It is the song "Dead To Me" for the second time. Obviously, this is a huge mistake if you ask us. A HUGE mistake. We're scratching our heads on this one as the master went straight from Alan Douches and West West Side to our hands to the pressing plant-and they are so professional they even put a two minute space of nothing so the plant knew where the break was supposed to be. But that doesn't matter-so we have to make the situation correct.

350 copies made their way out in the first batch of orders through Revelation & our first batch of mailorders. Those customers are welcome to contact orders@bridge9.com and to return their vinyl and get the correct version seeing as "Break The Chains" is a killer song and we understand. When you return the vinyl, let us know and we'll send you a CD OF YOUR CHOICE to make up for the mistake. If you want to keep your error pressing, you already have your record en route or in your hands so do nothing and enjoy the two songs from "Warriors". There are a few copies that made their way out to stores like Generation & Newbury but the rest are going to be replaced with the correct vinyl and shipped at the beginning of the week of October 8th. The 2000+ copies will be pulled and destroyed or recycled or turned into a new wall at our office.

This is a thank you to those who ordered, and an explanation or apology to those who have a 10 day delay. We're still taking orders as they'll ship out early next week. For those who think they're getting a rare version somewhere in stores-both "Break The Chains" and "Dead To Me" are about 2:50 of music, so unless you're putting it on a turntable- it's going to be impossible to tell if you have a regular copy or a botched copy. So just

Thank you to Agnostic Front & Nuclear Blast as well as Revelation Distribution & our pressing plant for working with us on this project and helping us solve it immediately. It sucks for some to wait a little over a week, and it's a huge pain in the ass for some people, but November 6th is a long way away so you'll still get this record in plenty of time to plan out where, when and how you'll buy "Warriors."

Thank you-Chris, Karl Matt & Seth at Bridge Nine.

PS-Does anyone know how to recycle 2000+ pieces of vinyl? All suggestions can be emailed to karl@bridge9.com.

PPS-STIGMA
I know all about Murphy's Law. It can bite hard.

As the Podcast secret is out of the bag and previously reported by Punknews & the PRP, Bridge Nine is releasing Agnostic Front's "For My Family" EP. This is a one time pressing that we are very excited to release to the world. Agnostic Front needs to introduction and this release combines the 25 year legacy of the New York Hardcore Institution into a 3-song 7" that proves Agnostic Front is as strong as ever. Sing alongs,, solos, punishing breakdowns & Vinny Stigma are all here and we can pretty much guarantee that every person buying this will want to hear "Warriors" when it comes out on November 6th via Nuclear Blast. The second this EP starts, we guarantee you won't be let down.

So yeah ... Agnostic Front's Bridge Nine 7" can be ordered by clicking the following
link. Shipping NOW.

Ambitions "Stranger" was a victim of internet leakage. We are PSYCHED that people want to hear this record so urgently. We are NOT psyched that we didn't even have CDs yet, so we really want to know who's capable of some Judas type betrayal right there somewhere close. Someday we'll post a blog about being told "I can't delete that link, people expecting the CD will be angry with me," but not today. Either way, what's done is done, but rather than cry, stamp feet or set up a press release condemning the working man for stealing our money (Ambitions are buddies with members of that reference, so it's all in good fun), we decided to set up pre-orders for Ambitions stranger right now. To thank the people who order from us, we have an AIM account set up where you send us your order number & last name-and we send you a link to the Mp3s we hid somewhere on the internet. They're 320 kps (HIGH quality) and we're thinking of cool ways to say thank you for people who support the band & the label.

As for those of you who are patient, we have a few surprises pending. We'll let you know more as the date gets sooner

Click the link for Stranger to check out those Pre-Orders.

-----------------

Death Before Dishonor just doesn't stop touring. They're starting a tour with Damnation AD & Unholy TOMORROW (click the flyer for dates) and they're home for a week before heading out with their new labelmates AGNOSTIC FRONT for two weeks of domestic shows. THEN they're home for two weeks and off to Europe for the Persistence Tour with Hatebreed, AF, Ignite, Evergreen Terrace and Sworn Enemy. Solid show right there.

Then they'll probably keep touring after that, as soon as they're ready for us to announce those plans, we will.

Click the link for more show information.

--------------------

Tours Tours Tours Tours:

1) RUINER IN EUROPE shows updated with some new venues to announce. Check those out with Sinking Ships this month and October. Then the band heads out with Modern Life Is War.

2) Ceremony & Have Heart are still crushing Europe for another week.

3) Crime In Stereo & Ambitions Record Release shows&.soon.

4) Death Before Dishonor's from Boston-but they're never here.

So check those out !

THANKS-B9
I'd make a joke about "no rest for the wicked," but there isn't much wicked about this crew. Oh fuck, now I can make a "wicked" joke with a sully accent. I'll pass on that one too. Just check out B9 and support. They deserve it.

a) Dean emailed everyone on the Indie Bible list

b) Dean thought it would be ironic for me to promote his album.

Yes, a Triple B Records mouse pad. "A mouse pad ... a mouse pad. I don't even own a mouse, let alone many mice that would necessitate an entire pad. What am I gonna do... with a mouse pad?"

COALESCE Salt and Passage 7-INCH

September 11th Second Nature Recordings/Crash and Bang US Tour August 15th -- 25th
"There's no shortage of great bands doing their own thing, but few capture the intensity, lyrical vision, and technical drive, that Coalesce owned in the late 90's" - Pastepunk.com

Channeling a piece of the same negative energy that fueled Black Flag, Kansas City, Missouri's Coalesce have literally beaten their way through hardcore's extreme end, arriving at one of the ugliest creative nadirs the genre has fostered." - Alternative Press

"A ferocious blend of brutal hardcore and vicious metal... incredibly infectious" - Metal-Observer.com

"One of the finest heavy bands in recent memory" - PunkNews.org

It's been 13 lucky years since COALESCE first entered a studio, and still no one's topped the Kansas City, Missouri quartet's paradigm-flipping noise/metal/hardcore mash-up. Well, put down your tablature and start sweating, Junior, because the boys are back in town, and they're tweaking this genre harder in two new songs than their trail of admirers has done in, like, forever. Salt and Passage, out September 11th, 2007 on Second Nature Recordings (in conjuction with the band's imprint Crash and Bang, is COALESCE's first release of new material since 1999's Revolution in Just Listening (Relapse), was recorded by longtime producer/friend Ed Rose and features the now-legendary lineup of Sean Ingram (vocals), Jes Steineger (guitar), The Casket Lottery's Nathan Ellis (bass) and Nathan "Junior" Richardson (drums). This vinyl-only release will be pressed on deluxe screen printed gatefold packaging and limited colored vinyl and audiophile 70 gram vinyl.

Due to the limited nature of this release (and the fact that many might not have an accessible turntable to review records), we've put together a streaming player for press folks:

Here's a sweet, little gem. The Bold reels from the Speak Out recordings. It even has an extra track. I know the track was released on the latest Bold discography, but I'm pretty positive that track was mixed off a cassette recording. Definitely not from the original recording. Here's your chance to own a crucial piece of NYHC history. Sweet.

108 "A NEW BEAT FROM A DEAD HEART" In Stores NOW!!

Go pick up the AMAZING new album from this legendary hardcore band.

From a review on PunkNews.org

Sounds about right.

Close to 11 years ago, 108 released what was nearly their final full-length, Threefold Misery. The band would break up not long after, but not without clearly imprinting their mark on the hardcore/punk scene, leaving obvious influences on everyone from the Hope Conspiracy and American Nightmare to a more external-of-the-box act like Glassjaw. It would be easy to acknowledge that these followers practically perfected the formula 108 wrote, then tore up the blueprints and redrafted them themselves, but it's hard to imagine that 108 would actually come along and join them in that very act.

However, it's precisely what 108's first post-reunion full-length, A New Beat from a Dead Heart, proves.

On A New Beat from a Dead Heart, the listener is blessed with some of the band's most ambitious, heaviest, and fastest material to date. Instant classics like the slightly reworked yet even more pulverizing "Angel Strike Man" and the harrowed "Resurrect to Destroy" easily match up with old favorites like "Blood" and "When Death Closes Your Eyes." But what's all the more amazing is that the band wields that same creative touch that may have actually damaged their oldest albums in some fans' eyes, and employs it differently here to consistently positive results. The aforementioned "Resurrect to Destroy" finds frontman Robert Fish / Rasajara rhythmically singing under a level of distortion and in front of modestly wailing guitar riffs during the verses, bass-less, to which it creates a fantastic dynamic to where he begins to heed warning during the chorus: "Resurrect to destroy / resurrect to destroy / resurrection into annihilation." Rasajara talks up a utopian world in "The Sad Truth" -- literally, as the track's almost completely his spoken word reflected by his bandmates' fairly leveled musical ongoings. The one other mellow offering is "Walk Through Walls," a reggae-inflected, old-school post-hardcore jaunt that sounds like a jam session involving Bad Brains and Fugazi, with Rasajara howling the chorus in gloriously MacKaye fashion.

As one could tell from the abovementioned songs, 108 continue to provoke thought without over-intellectualizing. "Bibles + Guns = The American Dream?" attempts to shift one's fixations from wants to needs, while "Guilt" briefly observes one's entitlement based on birth and gender.

108 hook up with some characters that weren't as high-profile 10 years ago -- namely, Deathwish Inc. and Kurt Ballou. The former is a perfect home for the metal/hardcore act and finds the label stylizing a perfectly sandy, rough finish to match 108's Krshna-inspired artwork. The latter lets 108 loose on all the band's creative detours, but thankfully, that band always know exactly where they're going -- Ballou merely pitches a dim but visible (audible) tent over their path.

A New Beat from a Dead Heart doesn't just prove 108 hasn't lost their touch -- it shows that a complete resurrection has done them wonders, and in a perfectly succinct 34 minutes. 108 remain tied to their spiritual underpinnings, but hardly let it affect their aggression and socially conscious outrage. If this is just the re-beginning of things to come, it's safe to bet that the blood will be flowing easy for years to come.

Check out Martyr Complex from our new LP and order the record which finally hits stores tomorrow, Tuesday, June 26!

108 "A New Beat... CD & Gatefold 12"LP Pre-order

Check out Guilt, Angel Strike Man and Three Hundred Liars from the new LP, a new beat from a dead heart, due out 6.26.07 on Deathwish Inc.

"Their first proper studio album in over a decade, "A New Beat From A Dead Heart" was recorded and engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Godcity Studios. With the opening bass line of "Declarations On A Grave", 108 transports listeners to a new aural plane with it's jarring grit and intensity. Standout track "Three Hundred Liars" is as musically infectious as they come, pulsing and writhing through it's many sonic twists and turns. And elsewhere on the album "Angel Strike Man" soars with a Bad Brains-esque white hot anger while "The Sad Truth" cuts deep with repetition and poignant poetic vocal styling. These, along with the other songs on the album, are all sonically unique and spiritually invigorating. Redefining "heavy" with their controlled chaos, drive to enlighten, and will to inspire through sound. All of these qualities make "A New Beat From A Dead Heart" the kind of rare artistic achievement that few bands could ever attain."

Bridge 9 Update - July 2007

Team B9 was all over the Hudson Roller Rink for EOSJ. Chris, Karl and crew like to keep busy. You'll notice how extremely busy from this update. B9 says:
First of all, we'd like to send an official and final congratulations to Death Before Dishonor and everyone who has supported them over the last month. Since the release of "Count Me In" DBD has been getting appreciation from a lot of people in the US and abroad. The album spent 4 weeks on Billboard's Top Independent albums chart. It's nothing that will make them or B9 complacent, but it's a huge accomplishment and we are really happy for the band after how hard they've worked and toured for the last two years.

Ambitions has finished recording their Bridge Nine debut CD/LP "Stranger." This is a 13 song epic that takes the groundwork laid on their Think Fast! EP and steps it up in every direction. The music is more diverse, the vocals are stronger, and it's a one of a kind record that takes influence from punk and hardcore, reminiscent of a fast Quicksand, a more modern version of Shelter, Bad Religion or Dag Nasty, but it's truly its own beast. Expect it in September with details to follow shortly.

Our webstore has been getting shot full of new stuff in the last couple days. Right now, you can get your hands on some new stuff. The Ruiner CD, Ruiner LP, Ceremony 7", package deal, as well as new Ruiner shirts, new Ceremony shirts, new DBD shirts and plenty more have been added. We even found a few No Turning Back gems hiding from us, so those are up as well.

After a long wait, we also added the remixed and remastered version of Champion's classic CD "Promises Kept". After the original studio sessions and Champions tour schedule, the version that was available for the last 3 years was something neither the band or engineer Kurt Ballou liked. Now, all has been fixed and it sounds the way it should have. It's louder, clearer and it's an incredible difference.

Almost every Bridge Nine band is on tour this summer. This is just halfway through an incredible year for us, and if you live somewhere in America or Europe, you're getting a chance to see at least one of our bands. Sound & Fury at the end of July has No Turning Back, Have Heart, Ceremony and Crime In Stereo. This is Hardcore in Philly has Death Before Dishonor, Have Heart, Crime In Stereo, Ambitions, and Ceremony, so we're making our rounds.

Ruiner's "Prepare To Be Let Down" is in stores now. We have the vinyl, CD, and a few new sweet shirts in the webstore.

Absolute Punk-"Ruiner pleases, triumphs, and affects. Prepare To Be Let Down didn’t save my life or anything quite so melodramatic, but it did make me view hardcore in a new way. This one will be hard to top."

Stuff Magazine-"When your full-length record is only 21 minutes long you have to make every second count; and this Baltimore-area hard-core outfit has done just that. Every song is chock-full of killer riffs and hard-core sensibility without getting preachy or trite. There are almost no breakdowns, but plenty of energy and just the right amount of melody make this one of the best records we've heard in a while."

Bay Area Melodic Hardcore. I wonder what PL thinks?

Michael from Escapist Records says:
Escapist Records has officially signed Bay Area hardcore-punk band Love, Hope and Fear. The and previously released an EP on State of Grace Records and self-released a full-length last year. Escapist Records will release a four-song 7"/digital EP entitled "Fate's Frowned on Us" later this month. The effort was recorded at Castle Ultimate Studios with Zach Ohren (Killing the Dream, Life Long Tragedy) and features original art from Curt Baer of Set it Straight. Those unfamiliar with the band can preview material from the band online here. Finally, Love, Hope and Fear will be embarking on a full U.S. tour this Summer, confirmed dates can be found at the above location.

This is The Heat #2. I didn't know there was a first issue. Straight out of Europe.

Here's what Dominik and Adam have to say.
Hey kids,

The HEAT #2 is finally out and we're stoked about the new issue. Of course our view is pretty biased but well this is advertising. But before I don't stop ranting about this or that look what you can find in it.

Interviews with :
* 108
* Death Is Not Glamorous
* No Turning Back
* Unholy (When Tigers Fight, ex-The Promise)
* Greg Bennick (Trial)
* Marco Avocado Booking
* Crisis Never Ends
* Michael AtTheShow.org (heast oida, du bist ur-guad)
* Patrick Daymares (ex-Sunrise)
* Niko Blacktop Records
* Stephen Fallis (At Both Ends Fanzine)
* An interview with Chris LetItBurn about horror movies
* Patrick Daymares (ex-Sunrise)
* Asunto
* Death Before Disco

plus some more interviews.

Well what else? Columns (of course), personal shows review of 2006, some articles and an article series called "Tale Of The Lost Record", plus the usual bunch of reviews, hc cheesiness and so on.

74 pages. b/w cover. Completely in English. Content for at least 1-3 weeks of sitting on the toilet.

thexheat@gmail.com is the best way to get in touch with us and to find out all the details about buying new issue!
There you have it. Look into that one. 1-3 weeks worth of sitting material is good in my book. I want to read it just to see what Stevie has to say.

RECORDS SHIP SECOND WEEK OF JUNE!

Bitter End is recording their debut full length entitled "Climate of Fear" in mid May and to celebrate (and offset our credit cards going to shit) we are doing some eBay auctions to raise some money to pay for this soon-to-be legendary release. We've decided there's no place better than to make their record release show this year's Sound and Fury Festival in always sunny Ventura, CA. Drop everything important and make sure you attend the first day as they will be leveling the Alpine and most of the left coast with some of the best current hardcore bands around today.

The lovely lads of Meltdown will begin touring next week with the kings of Philadelphia, PA Blacklisted for a short two week jaunt. After that they'll set their sights on Europe and wash over the motherland like the Black Plague with Holland's No Turning Back. By coincidence (or maybe not), we just got in some of the limited vinyl version of their debut CDEP "Demolition" from our new friends at Closed Casket Activities.

The unstoppable touring juggernaut that is Trash Talk will continue with plans to hit everywhere and anywhere till the end of 2007! We think Lee and co. is certifiable and we're just waiting on the documented proof, which will be coming later this summer as they head into the studio for their debut CDEP with Malfunction. In other TT news, our good good friends at Six Feet Under Records will be releasing the vinyl version of "Walking Disease" (CDEP on Rumble Records) so make sure you don't miss out on that!

Xo skeletons have just finished recording their new album more info check out myspace.com/xoskeletons

For our plans this summer besides days spent watching Dodgers games and chillin at Chateau Harder (shout out), Malfunction Records will be attending both hardcore festivals with stops at Sound and Fury Festival (Ventura, CA) and This is Hardcore 2007 (Philadelphia, PA). Will we have cr00sh special merch at these events? Will weird people be running our tables at these events [probably]? All these answers and more will be... uhhh... answered so come out to both and say hi!

Since we finally got our new website/webstore up we recently added a whole bunch of new items for your consumption pleasure. Please note that if you are outside the United States you need to order at least 2 items due to shipping charges. If this doesn't work for you, we urge you to check out the fine folks at revhq.com.

Revhq.com! iTunes.com! They love us. Check them out.

Have Heart World Tour ...

I love Have Heart. Those dudes just left today for Japan. I wish them good luck and safe travels. They have a pretty busy schedule. Check out what B9 had to say.
Have Heart is still touring in support of their LP "The Things We Carry" which came out in August of 2006. This winter, Have Heart said "we want to tour more starting in May." The results are:

1) May - The guys are hitting Japan,
2) June - then flying to the USA, doing some shows in California,
3) then flying to pickup some shows with Madball and Terror,
4) then flying over to Europe to play Pressure Festival.
5) July - Then after a short break, they head out to California to play the Sound & Fury Festival,
6) August - then tour back across the USA with Death Before Dishonor and Rise & Fall before
7) August & September - flying back to Europe to destroy everyone on their tour with Bane and Ceremony.
8) November - After that, they're going to South America.

www.bridge9.com/shows for information.
Now that's a busy schedule. Maybe Pete will bring me back some ltd JP merch. We'll see.

***Palehorse Touring Europe & Amongst The Flock gets more praise***

Palehorse has been destroying kids nightly since the release of Amongst the Flock last November and they're currently in the middle of their first tour to Europe. If you're overseas, check out www.bridge9.com/shows for the latest show information. People are still discovering Amongst the Flock, and Metal Edge recently said that the record is "...Pensive, original, and heavy are three words that best describe Palehorse's experimental hardcore album Amongst The Flock. With hasty vocals that revel in the essence of punk and an imulsive, hardcore rhythm, Palehorse generates an interestingly intense genre of their own. Moreover, Amongst The Flock has plenty of catchy breakdowns. Even if you aren't a fan of either of these genres, you can appreciate (if not enjoy) Amongst The Flock's appealing, innovative aura." It just keeps coming.

***Ruiner Prepare To Be Let Down information & Tour Announced***

Baltimore's ugly spawn, Ruiner, is getting ready to release their debut LP Prepare To Be Let Down on June 19th. Following their record release show on June 16th in Maryland, they're embarking on a full US and European tour that doesn't end until October. For detailed show information, go to www.bridge9.com/shows. The European tour announcement will be made very soon, and it will be worth the wait.

***Ceremony Scared People EP coming out July 3rd on Itunes and vinyl***

Ceremony has a touring schedule that is going to cover just about every corner of the US and Europe following the release of their 7" and Digital release Scared People. This is a six song EP that is just punishing. If you haven't heard Ceremony yet, they've released a demo, a 7" and a CD/LP on Malfunction Records, and they're the most brutal, angry, out of control band you'll see live. This summer, they'll be touring with Shipwreck and Blacklisted, then hitting Europe with Bane and Have Heart-a few shows are with this little group called the Gorilla Biscuits. The full-length will be coming out in Early 2008, but trust us-this will hold you over.

***Crime In Stereo and Ambitions finishing their B9 Debuts***

Long Island's Crime In Stereo and Connecticut's Ambitions are finishing up their Bridge Nine debuts. You'll have to wait a while for these ones, but it's going to be the the last part of a great year here at Bridge Nine.

Finally-we here at Bridge Nine would like to say goodbye to the guys who made up a little group called Kill Your Idols. This is a band that B9 had the privilege of working with on the vinyl version of the Kill Your Idols/Good Riddance split 7" and if you haven't heard No Gimmicks Needed, or the "Something Started Here" collection that is coming out on CD with Lifeline and vinyl with Get Outta Town Records-you're missing out. Personally, I'm really sad that I couldn't make it to their last shows, but without making this longer-Kill Your Idols is going to be missed but they'll always be remembered.
If you didn't read anything in there that peaked your interest, you need to get your head checked. Seriously.

It's been a hot and hectic week already as far as Ebay goes. Here is some stuff I know you slept on.

A Turning Point shirt sold for less than a Stop And Think shirt? How does that happen? And this is coming from a guy who LOVES Stop And Think. Just a little odd.

Ugh, this shirt. So cool and uncool at the same time. Such a toss up.

$1.04. $1.04? $1.04!?!?! How is this even possible? I've seen kids spend 100 times this on various shirts. My mind has been blown.

Now I know something is wrong. A How's Your Edge? shirt sold for 30 times a Cold World shirt. How does that happen? Cool shirt. Michiel Walrave artwork. SUPPORT!

Now here are a few items you can still get if you don't blow it. Get bidding.

Man, I love crewneck sweatshirts. And Floorpunch. The marriage of two awesome enterprises fir sure.

There are two of these out there. NY Wolfpack! C'mon. Steve Reddy. Equal Vision Records. EVR. Man.

Every GB fan should own one of these. Any deep pocketed or extremely lucky GB fan, that is. I was lucky enough to stumble upon one for cheap. Great record.

Out Comes the Wolves needs a little help with their summer tour. Not sure how they only have 3 dates booked for a two week tour, but that's the case. Give them a hand.

OUT COME THE WOLVES
(Barcelona, Spain / Sell Our Souls Records)

http://www.myspace.com/xoutcomethewolvesx
http://www.selloursouls.com
http://www.myspace.com/selloursouls

Out Come The Wolves were formed during the summer of 2005. They released a demo in time for their first show, which was supporting Champion in Barcelona in October 2005. Then, they started to play shows all over the place with bands like Discarga, Cinder, The Defense etc. The band teamed up with Sell Our Souls Records to release their first 7" in April 2006. The release show was amazing, together with Cinder, Dick Cheney, Justice and Underdog. After this, they started to play everywhere and last year they played a weekend tour around France. In 2007 they played a week-long tour together with Death Is Not Glamourous around Spain.

Their new 7", titled "Oh no it's OCTW again!", will be released next 25th May. The song "420" was included on the first "European New Breed Compilation" released by the dutch label Pressure Release in time for Light The Fuse 2007. Just in time to support this new effort, they're going out on their first European tour.

Out Come The Wolves are constantly displaying their raw and aggressive hardcore/punk, with and astouding and aggressive stage presence. If you like straight-up, honest and energetic hardcore, in the spirit of classics like DYS, Antidote and Negative Approach, you won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately, I have heard whisperings that this one really isn't OG. Most OG shirts were black with white ink. Maybe these people are wrong. Who knows?

How this one shot up to $91 is beyond me. Beyond me.

Two Bad Brains shirts. I was watching this lot when it somehow became a Buy It Now and was GONE. Yeap, gone. Someone won it right out from under my nose. Doh.

Last but not least ...

Here's a little DIY jacket. Yeap.

JUSTICE "ESCAPADES" LP OUT NOW
It's been out for a few weeks now and the first press is going fast. Powerful, mid-paced hardcore with one of the best sounding recordings in years. Solid as hell.

POLICE & THIEVES ON YOUNGBLOOD
We're proud to welcome Washington D.C.'s POLICE & THIEVES to the label! They will be hitting the studio in mere days to record their debut EP on Youngblood. Look for this 7" EP to release this summer. We will be working with Higher Conscience Records to release a CD which compiles the 2006 demo, the 7" on Higher Conscience and the upcoming 7" on Youngblood.

YOUNGBLOOD WELCOMES MIND ERASER
This was announced at the Youngblood 10 Year Anniversary show but we it's such cool news that we have to announce it again. We will be releasing a 7" from MIND ERASER. It's an honor to be working with a Straight Edge band once again!

LIFES HALT "WE SOLD OUR SOULS" 7" REPRESS
We've been promising to do this for a long time now and it will finally see the light of day (once more) this summer. The DAT has been dusted off and it's off to be mastered for a second time. The original plates are no good (and the plant that originally pressed it up blows anyway) so the new issue of "We Sold Our Souls" should sound even better than the original.

NEW SITE IN THE WORKS
It's long overdue but a new site is underway. It will boast a new design plus the band pages and discography will be finally up-to-date. We've gotten about a million emails asking for discography information so it'll be good to get all the discography info up to date and available for all to see. Our online store will be getting an upgrade as well.

STILL HOT:
(YB-27) Justice "Escapades" LP

RECENTLY REPRESSED:
(YB-23) Iron Age "Constant Struggle" LP 2nd press 300 on black vinyl
(YB-26) Fired Up "When The Lights Go Out" 7" 2nd press 300 on red vinyl

SOON:
(YB-28) Police & Thieves 7"/CD
(YB-29) Mind Eraser 7"

KINDA SOON:
(YB-25) Set To Explode 7"

Plus 2-3 more mind-blowing releases that are a little too far off to mention yet...

UPCOMING REPRESSINGS:
(YB-4) Lifes Halt We Sold Our Souls For Hardcore 7" repress

Go check out Sean and Youngblood Records now!

Let's see what the Wild World Of Ebay has to offer us today. Some gems, I'm sure.

First Up: What Feeds The Fire - Set Me Free test press. Yeap, a genuine test press. Check that red foil. Hot. This album came with about 400 different sleeve variations, but this one is likely the coolest.

Next: A piece of Bridge9 Records history, the Tenfold / Sum Of All Fears split EP. That's Bridge9 #001 for those keeping track. Dope. Back when Chris was mailordering out of his house in CT.

Finally: The Legendary Judge Chung King. This was up last week, but was pulled "for issues." Now it's back. Let's see if it can outdistance Sammy's Chung King. No idea who owns #77. Rev doesn't list the owner.

And in case you were sleeping, here is how a few New York Hardcore Together Comps ended.

Black vinyl: $113

Orange vinyl w/ Liberty (??) Stamp: $201 (reserve not met)

Orange vinyl w/ Bat Stamp: $305

Stay tuned for next weeks. We can talk about crucial shirts.
